I hear you brother and I'm trying just running into roadblocks because of the lack of "employment" history trust me it's not from a lack of effort.

A recruiter from CFI is suppose to call me back tomorrow so I appreciate the lead very much and will keep the thread updated .

Thanks for taking the time from your busy schedule to help.

CFI will reimburse you for your permit, hazmat background check, hazmat and tanker endorsements. All transportation, food, and housing is paid for by them. They also reimburse for your DOT physical. You will need receipts for reimbursement. You would have to drive for them for one year to pay that off, there are no payroll deductions for training. You only owe if you don't complete your year. That year goes by quickly.

Also, you can get going quicker with paid training than with a grant. Governments don't move quickly.

Good luck.

Thanks for chiming in.

Yes I can print out a statement from my first ssdi check in 2017 to current and can provide anyone the workers comp information from 2014 to 2017.

Wilson and Prime both said no go. Same with Roehl.

And yes the app here on TT is whatni did within 5 minutes of joining the forum. I am in Marlyand. Currently try due to covid the WIOA offices are closed. I have already sent them an email and received a reply that they are working on getting me in touch with the proper individual to discuss my options and see if I qualify. That suggestion was given to me by the gentleman who runs the cdl program at the local community College.

I reached out to CFI today waiting to hear back from them regarding the lack of work history. Fingers crossed.

I will look up the two companies you have mentioned. I don't mind traveling anywhere to get trained. I mean I'm trying to get an OTR job so it would be silly for me to be of the mindset that I don't want to go to such and such a place for training.

I checked a few other companies today including Walmart but seems the good jobs all require quite some OTR experience with a safe record as well. Not my case at the moment.

I am waiting for a recruiter from Melton to call me tomorrow. Im not crazy about going the flat bed route but exploring all options at this point.

Thank you very much for the input and suggestions it is much appreciated. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Got the time off approved for Wed the 31st to go take the tanker exam. Hopefully I pass and.come home with my CLP with the tanker endorsement. In the mean time I will keep trying to find company paid training. I also emailed the state to see if I qualify for a grant to help pay for school.

I'm aware you all recommend company paid training but I'm getting no where bevause of my lack of work history from being disabled.

Hay, Gabriel.

Do you not have 'paystubs' of some sort, being on SSDI ? I would think that would help. Did you do our 'one & done' application, here on TT and yield nothing?

Apply For Paid CDL Training

Also, I see Big Scott suggessted CFI ... that's a worthwhile try, as well, for sure!

Re: the WIOA grant.. there's plenty of information on here; and if you Google it for your state, the application should be right within arms reach. It is in Ohio, anyway! Two more companies I know of that train in Ohio are Dutch Maid Logistics (Optical went with them, if you want to look him up...after expiring all else) and Mast Trucking. Mast, however, is 'new' to the training (and it's PAID TRAINING!) so I'm not sure how 'picky' they may be... but there's a handful of a few more for ya, anywho!

Best to you, sir!

No I have not tried CFI, I will look into them today as I can in between work orders. Thanks for the heads up.

Have you tried CFI. If you can prove your unemployment and employment history and they take you, we have no team driving in training.

If you have any other questions, let me know. Have to roll.

Schneider Orientation ๐Ÿ˜…

Ok thanks. I will give them a shout tomorrow and see what they say. There are plenty of schools around here maybe one of them is on their gtg list.

You have to double check Gabriel. When I went through they had paid cdl training. You just had to have a private cdl school nearby that they approved of. Thatโ€™s what I did and than went to orientation immediately after. But that was years ago.

Congrats on your new endeavor brother ๐Ÿ‘

Quick question, Schneider only hires licensed drivers right? No CDL training?

Thanks

I'm still trying to figure out why my picture won't upload to change my avatar photo lol ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Well yโ€™all, I just passed my six month mark since officially being hired after Cdl school at Millis.

I love this job more every day. The stuff that used to worry me are small potatoes now. Itโ€™s amazing the things that just happen now without me getting nervous or worried. Just today, I took wrong turn and ended up on a side street leading to a residential neighborhood. Instead of worrying, I pulled over, looked on my phone at aerial map of my location and found an easy and safe way out of it, and made it look like it was my intention still along.

Iโ€™ve been to 20 states in the past 6 month, and one of them, I was not driving. Hospitalized with Covid pneumonia. For 1.5 of those months, I was running with my trainer, so Iโ€™ve only been on my own for maybe 3.5 months. Iโ€™m still happy they gave me a brand new kenworth with 40 miles on it, and I treat it like my own. Iโ€™m at 35,000 miles now, so 10k per month, 2500 a week, and stop home every weekend.

Iโ€™m looking at other options to learn once I finish my year here. I may end up staying. Iโ€™m happy here. I rarely hear from my dispatcher, I plan my own route and schedule, as long as Iโ€™m on time, I hear nothing. If Iโ€™m going to be late, as long as I let dispatch know, again, I hear nothing. Iโ€™m wondering though if I might like flatbed or tanker though.

Iโ€™m taking my daughter out for her spring break. She wants to go see the Gulf of Mexico. Asked my dispatcher and he says heโ€™s gonna do setting he can to make it happen.

OMG I'm so sorry about the Covid crap. Happened to a FEW of the guys on here, dangit! Glad you bounced back!! Nice new truck, to boot!!! Bet its awesome ..... Pix someday ?!?!? :)

Re: the 'hiccup' / wrong turn ~ That's the way do do it; act like a CAT (feline) and be like "I MEANT to do that!" Hahahaha!!

I'm SO happy for you, good sir!! ENJOY the kiddo, most of all. It's phenominal. We did it for a small while; memories for sure!!

MAJOR CONGRATS!!!! MANY milestones. . . . so glad to hear !!!

Ok so here goes. I've been back and forth with myself all weekend about this.

I have done research on here and I understand the advice that is given. I want to get that out of the way as then you guys will see I'm not some kid saying hey tell me what to do. And im not asking anyone to tell me what to do just looking 5o clear up some advice before I make a decision thay is not smiled upon here for new drivers.

So company paid training over private school, no dollar general BS , and no team driving , am I missing something?

I passed the General Knowledge, Combination, and Air Brakes section with no issue. I missed the tanker section by one question and will be going back on the 31st for a retest as that was the soonest available appointment. And im gonna have to take some time off from work to go do it but I am going to do it.

I have had (2) companies decline me because of my lack of work history from being disabled. One of the recruiters told me after 6 months at my current employer to reach back out and he will see what he can do but he needs at least that. The other recruiter flat out told me we require three years and I've never seen the company forgive more than 1 year of the three for any reason.

Still waiting on one of the companies but ever since speaking to the recruiter about this I have heard nothing from her. But I already emailed her yesterday when I got home from the DMV after taking my exams. Hoping that passing will show I want this and I'm willing to work for it and that with clean history and DL that might give me a shot.

The only company so far to offer to bring me to their training facility for company paid training does team driving. So there in lies my conundrum. Do I take that opportunity despite team driving not being recommended and suck it up for the term of the contract until I can go somewhere else? Do I consider maybe now putting myself through school? Just stay at my current job until I've been there longer and try again?

I have always been fascinated by big trucks since I was a kid. I was a fireman for many years and anytime I got to drive drive the shift I was all smiles ear to ear. Even on the rescue trucks we had which we internationals I drove every chance I could because I just loved it and there was plenty of chance because most of the guys didn't want the responsibility that came with driving around in such a big city.

Getting back to work now I started working at a local garage as a lube tech using the knowledge I have growing up working on cars to earn me a check. I love where I work the environment my co workers my bosses the owner etc. But when the owner took me on it was very clear for both of us he was helping me get back on my feet and that I would look for something else. They will have me as long as I stay and I have gotten two raises in the last three months but this is a 3 bay garage and the two other mechanics have been working there since they were kids. One is the bosses son in law. I won't be moving up there is no where to go.

I have been on the waiting list for diesel tech programs since the end of last year but covid has everything continually getting pushed back around here.

I have been back and forth with the idea of driving again just on a bigger scale for a while. This website has been a tremendous resource. I read Brett's Book yesterday start to finish in a few hours. I used the study guides on here to help me pass my exams. And I applied to the paid company programs through the link on here. Have the driver pulse app downloaded to keep track of things and auto fill applications when necessary etc.

I'm no crazier about being stuck in a confined space with another human I barely know for work than you guys are about rookies taking on team driving but right now as far as company paid training it's looking like the only show in town for me unfortunately.

Sorry for the long post just clearing my head and making sure I am sharing what I have done thus far to put myself in the best position possible to pursue this career.

Thanks
