Josh, I love my Volvo.
What you're seeing here is an inside joke about Owner Operators who don't speak English very well. For whatever reason, they all seem to be driving Volvos.
I don't think there's a lot of "Volvo hate" in the trucking world. There is some frustration with non English speaking drivers who tend to damage our trucks when they attempt parking next to us. If there's a joke, that's it.
Gotcha, that makes way more sense, because I have always loved the body lines on the Volvo trucks, so I was gonna be upset if I had to pretend I didn't like it, when I got my first truck.

As a FNG, can someone explain the VOLVO hate in the trucking world? I basically just want to be in on the joke lol.

SWIFT Training Diary, July 2021, Memphis, TN
Good morning everyone.
The diaries on this website were instrumental in helping me make some decisions, so I decided that best thing I could do would be to pay it forward and get something updated on here.
I start SWIFT Academy in Memphis, TN on July 6th, 2021, my first week will be entirely virtual, then I will go up to Memphis.
I had to get my CDL permit and medical card before I started, so that's all been done. Looking forward to keeping everyone updated as best as possible!

Just a quick hello and thank you
Thanks Errol! I already read that so I was super grateful for that.
BoshJennett asks
if anyone has some up to date info on SWIFT and the GP account in the southeastern region, please feel free to shareI did exactly that. GP includes everything from OK/TX to FL/(southern) VA.
There is a trade off to get home every Friday. You don't get some things OTR gets, like detention (I have sat 24 hours waiting on a load) and the safety bonus. (As of three years ago. I don't know why updates.)

Just a quick hello and thank you
Good afternoon everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, I'm josh from Birmingham, AL.
July 2nd is my last day in banking and July 6th I start school with SWIFT. Spent a lot of time doing research on this forum and am excited to join the world of trucking. Errol(from Olive Branch) and Chris(from Pinson) thank you both for your input on SWIFT because it helped make my decision, that and their recruiter was the nicest/most thorough.
I'm a single dad that co-parents decently with his ex-wife, my princess is 2.5, so the recruiter and I discussed/agreed that I would be taking the GP dedicated job to start after I get done with training.
I'll try my best to keep everyone updated!
Also, if anyone has some up to date info on SWIFT and the GP account in the southeastern region, please feel free to share, the search feature doesn't allow sorting by most recent.

Just a quick hello and thank you
Congratulations!
I’ve long believed everything in truck driving is about the setup. From choosing the right training, company, backing and trip planning, you must set yourself up for success. It sounds like you’re doing that.
If you haven’t already done so, I recommend doing the HRTP in here. It’ll give you a leg up on others in training.
Go with a positive approach and humility.
Congrats again!
Thanks for the suggestion, I already have my permit, does that program cover more than that? A little extra knowledge never hurt anyone!

Based on your location, they send them to Huntsville or Birmingham, but you'll know pretty quickly the results.
