Aloha,
I'm 56 years old and grew up in the era of Smokey & the Bandit, Convoy, and BJ & the bear (lol) and dreamt of driving a truck. I spent most of my childhood in Hawaii, or some other island in the pacific ocean (Dad was Air Force). In 81 we moved to Florida, I was 16, and been driving for a year. Dad shipped the car to California, and we spent the summer driving across the US. We had a CB, so I tuned in and talked to the truckers the whole summer. It was a massive change - In Hawaii if you drove for an hour in any one direction you fell off the island - lol, but I loved to drive the open roads. When we got to Florida, my first job was at a Beach Resort. I worked my butt off, and moved through the ranks. I looked up 30 years later, and decided to start my own business in Digital Marketing for the Hospitality industry.
Anyway, over the last 18 months we lost several friends, and family members to COVID. My wife and I were driving to Kentucky (I love to drive everywhere) to do the Bourbon trail with my now 30 year old daughter. We got to discussing dreams, and life, and how much was missed, and how blessed we have been. We got to talking about my dream of driving a truck. We decided that since we were secure in our retirement, and the kids were away in college, or building their own lives, that it was time for me to finish my career where I should have started. So, I started doing research, and following forums like this. Last month I decided to pull the trigger and get my CDL-A at a local school here in Tampa.
I'm excited to get things rolling, and look forward to the wisdom that lies in these pages for direction, and support.

Nope i started school at 55 and finished at 56. Hahaha had a birthday in week 2. I was one of 4 guys in my class 50+. For 3 of us it was a bucket list item. Finished school in Tampa and now I'm interviewing companies for finishing school. Like my son said "Just Do It!"
