Been a while

Well i started my new career in trucking by attending the tda school in sacramento on march 10 2014. got my cdl permit 4 days later. March 16 i left for fontana ca for the rest of my schooling and on march 31,2014 tested and received my class a license. April 5 I started the real learning with my mentor for swift/central refrigerated and have been out until i returned on to the swift yard on may 14 2014. I then upgraded to company solo status on may 14 2014. And after another small class that i had to do I was issued my first truck. A 2014 freightliner cascadia evolution with less than 70000 miles on it. And then the fun started the very next day on friday. I finally made it home for the first time since March 16,2014 for home time. I head out again this saturday for what i hope will be a couple of very good runs. but i will do just about anything they want me to do. any run less than a 100 miles is considered local pay and it pays a flat rate plus miles. I want to thank everyone on this website for answering my questions and helping me out. I look forward to meeting some of you out on the road. I find it very cool to drive something as big as a truck. P.S. My parents and my wife and all my friends have new respect for me and they all think its very cool. thank you all againdancing.gifdancing-banana.gifdancing-dog.gifthank-you.gifthank-you-2.gif

Update on school

Well day one was the dot physical and drug testing. Out of 16 of us we lost 4 before the first day was done. 12 of us received our long forms and 2 year cards.dancing-dog.gif then it was free time until we started airbrakes info. after going thru that we tested our knowledge. I missed 3 questionssorry.gif Day 2 was today. We started out with a second airbrakes test and i killed it missing only 1dancing.gif . After that it was straight to general knowledge. A break for lunch then more reviews and some training videos. Then we did a 50 question test on general knowledge. Hit that one out of the park by missing only 3 out of 50dancing-banana.gifdancing-dog.gifdancing.gif . I will do better tomorrow and then straight to combination and then the full monty test of 150 questions. Then on to the dmv for the real deal class a permit test. I will keep updating my progress as i can.

Truck School tomorrow.

Well the time is here. I begin a new career tomorrow with Central Refrigerated by attending the first week class at TDA in my home town of Sacramento. Then the long lonely bus trip to their facility in Socal for 2 more weeks. then out with a company trainer for 200 hours or 20000 miles of what i hope will be incident free and challenging. I am looking forward to this and am changing my status to in school. I am prepared and ready and will soak all the info like a sponge. Any last words of advice to a scared but confident ready to learn newbie trucker would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone so far for the great advice and I will keep updating as soon as i can.dancing.gifrofl-1.gifwtf-2.gifthank-you.gif

Thinking about starting a class to get my cdl

I was in your position. I started my research by going online and found this website. The training program is excellent. I dont know what a colledge class will teach you. But I researched paying for school myself or going with company sponsered training. I myself asked a lot of questions and got answers i was looking for. Some companies only do team driving and during my research i thought that was a great idea to keep my wife at ease knowing i would be with another person for safety. But then i researched some more and did not like that idea simply because what if the other person and you do not get along and he/she is a total idiot and does something stupid and gets them and you killed or hurt. No thanks. I trust me when i am going to be behind the wheel. I myself will be starting company sponsered training on March 10 2014. Good Luck to you and use this website to ask question and use the High Road to Trucking training program. It will help you get ahead in class when you decide to start. And If not then at the very least you will get a better view of what truckers have to go through.good-luck.gifgood-luck-2.gif

Started to get worried, but then . . .

I start truck school this monday. But my research and asking questions began in January of this year. I applied at cr england, crst, swift, and central refrigerated. when the recruiters call ask lots of questions.(they will say anything to get you to sign with them). They will get you started before you are ready. One Company sent me a welcome package like i was all ready to go. After research and asking questions on this particular website. I made the decision to start in march. Reason being i did not want to try and drive an 80000 pound truck in the ice and snow right after school. Spring and summer months will usually be less icy and i will get experience of driving a big rig before the next winter when I will be more prepared to do so. With that said Get started on this websites High Road training program I am almost done and have learned a lot. Everyone here is really Helpful and will answer any questions that you may have. I start with Central Refrigerated on the 10th.good-luck-2.gifgood-luck.gifsmile.gif

Nervous,Scared, but confident.

Ok. Quit my job of 20 years and start school this monday. I drove out to the school i will be attending for the first week just to find it. I'm almost done with the TruckingTruth High Road Training Program (still in the 90+ percent range). I have even bought a training aid in the form of a scale model Semi Truck just to Kind of visualize what a trailer will do when making right turns or backing up. I am getting nervous and scared. I am confident that i will do extremely well. I will use this nervous fear as a motivating factor. I will keep updating my progress as my new adventure begins.embarrassed.gifshocked.pnggood-luck-2.gif
