Talking Shop: The Just Talking Thread

My company has said they prefer us to use recap but I had two days where I got back 5:45 and 6:45 respectively. I think I'm gonna start doing 34 hour resets more. What's the best way to ask for a reset?

How often do you guys do 34 hour resets?

When I run out of hours and only get back 7 to 9 hours over the next two days, then I do a 34.

Talking Shop: The Just Talking Thread

I thought the way that the buttons and stuff was laid out on my trainer's Pete 579 was just all wrong and counter intuitive.

Asked my company for a Freightliner and I like it a lot. Seems underpowered compared to the 579 engine but that's not a deal breaker for me.

579 has a digital gage cluster. Some like that. I'm just fine with the regular cluster on my 2020 cascadia.

The 579 has had lots of issues with its compartment door not latching properly. It opens up on the bed as well, so when my trainer's bed got moldy from all the water seepage, he had to get a new bed. A common problem was water leakage on the compartment door, said our shop. Cascadia compartment door hasn't had this problem plus it doesn't open up the sleeper.

My cascadia has fog lights, super helpful. Our 579s don't have fog lights.

I'm glad I asked for a Freightliner.

Sleeper cab vibration noise?

I find it harder to sleep when my reefer is off, which makes no sense at all. But considering my company hauls 90% reefer loads, I guess it's just normal for me.

When I go to sleep I don't idle at all. Don't like the vibration from the truck. Love my APU

Dealing with wind

North Dakota, not South Dakota

Thank you for the input, everyone.

For context, a brief but intense storm hit me as I was going west on I-94 near the Montana-South Dakota border.

It only lasted for about 10 minutes, heavy rain and wind gusts meant I had to keep the wheel turned right just to stay straight. I've been through wind a lot but this was the worst so far for me.

Split Sleeper Berth

Hello, I had a question about split sleeper berth.

1. Is there a minimum number of hours to drive before doing a split sleeper berth?

Like do you need to drive 3 hours or four or more before you can do a split sleeper berth?

2. The way it works is you drive for the minimum amount and then you go "off" for two hours but you gain back eight hours or you go "off" three hours and gain back seven hours. Is my understanding correct?

Thanks for the help.

Dealing with wind

What's the best thing to do when you feel like it's dangerously windy when you are driving?

Is it best to stop or better to try to drive out of the wind gusts?

Is wind something to be concerned about? I've seen videos of trucks knocked over by it. But maybe this is rare.

Any general tips for dealing with heavy wind gusts is appreciated.
