Just read this from start to finish.
Any further updates Chris? Did you ever check out Schneider or get into tankers? I've been checking them out myself as a possible future company in the tanker division after I get some experience. Rouel is on my list of companies to start out with but with either a dry van or reefer. The more I research them I'm thinking I may even stay there for a bit. I really don't want to bounce around from one to another. I'm most definitely looking for a regional gig since I have a family.
Hope things are working out for you.

Thanks G-Town! I'll definitely check out the links. You said the clases are weekly. Did you travel home for the weekends?

Big changes coming to Trucking Truth tomorrow!
I always thought we should have the type of trucking we do under our user names, maybe under where it says driver type.
Like: BobcatBob Experienced driver Linehaul
XYZ Rookie driver Regional flatbed
Or something along those lines.
I like that idea too!

Hey G-Town,
reaching out for more info into Swift. How often do they have CDL school? What is the difference in the two paths of private CDL school vs Swift CDL school (would having my CDL going to Swift speed up anything as well as other benefits? How likely would a rookie get a dedicated account right out of training? Do any routes take the driver into Canada? How long is the training period working with a trainer and how long are they out each trip? Do they pay for down time for breakdowns and waiting for loads?

FINALLY...I am moving forward!!
That's awesome Zen.
I seriously considered Veriha myself. They were actually @ the top of my list of companies that offer CDL training. The long time away from home and the unsure routes in the eastern part of the US is what made me decide it wasn't for me. I think I would have been gone like almost 6 weeks total before going solo and possibly heading home with my first load. I like the class structure though. The fact that they are big into Canada crossings which I was interested in. I already have a passport and TWIC card.
I liked everything I read and heard about them. I'm still kind of twisting that around in the back of my mind. But right now if I do go with a company for CDL training Rouel is ranking first for me. However, I'm really leaning more towards getting my CDL from a private school that is just 3 minutes from walking distance from me. Many companies offer tuition reimbursement with the same contract terms as if you got the CDL from them. So I don't think that's an issue. I would be nice to not have to put all that money out upfront though.
Please keep us updated as I'm very curious how Veriha turns out. Good luck with it and be safe.
