Need advice, does this offer sound normal?

Hello from Joliet!

Yes, it is semi normal. There are a lot of trucking companies that use a outdated law. It allows them not to pay overtime.

What sort of work will you be doing out of curiosity?

Most likely normal dry van runs. Possibly some flatbed and box truck driving as well. Just all within the state. And in cities which I’m not thrilled about.

Need advice, does this offer sound normal?

So I received a phone call today from the company I've been trying to get on with. This is my first job as a driver. In my situation I have to be local, not thrilled about it, but I have obligations that require me home every night throughout the week. I understand that this isn't the best choice for a new driver, however its what I'm going to do.

I'm curious to see if the offer they made sounds fishy to any of you vets out there. I live in IL, and I'm 20 so I cant go out of state for another year. I was told I'd be running 55-60 hours a week Monday to Friday at 20 an hour. I asked him (The recruiter) if that was over time paid and he said no to my surprise. By no means a deal breaker, but still was wondering if that was normal. It's a smaller family owned company, and honestly 20 an hour is the most money I've ever made in my life. He also said once I turned 21 the pay would go up, to a number that sounded much better, and he claims home every weekend. .So It seems okay to me...any thoughts?

If I'm leaving out info I apologize, just ask and I'll do my best. Thank you!

Hazmat, endorsements, CDL/License renewal...HELP

Are you already employed with a CDL? The reason I ask is a lot of Florida is a dead zone both for hiring and for freight coming out of the state.

No sir. Hopefully getting my first job soon. Just wanting to move to Florida in the future.

Hazmat, endorsements, CDL/License renewal...HELP

Stupid questions incoming. But I need some help from my current hazmat holders. I've been looking at the different endorsements to get, and I want to get tanker, and hazmat. Im seeing that I need an H endorsement, and a N for tankers. However whats tripping me up is this X endorsement. Does it mean I don't have to take the tanker or hazmat tests? Can I just apply and test for that one separately? Or am I going to have to get each endorsement separately.

I'm looking to move to Florida in the next year, and they don't except out of state hazmat, so I'm going to wait to get it. I'll be moving in the next year so it'd be pointless. But if there are other endorsements I can get now to save time I want to do that.

Also, renewing cdl. I live in IL (Yay...sarcastically) I just got my CDL last week. My actual drivers license expires in august. That means my cdl will expire too right? So when I go to renew my license, do I tell them I want to renew my cdl as well? Or is there a different process for that?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

What Questions Should I Ask During An Interview?

WHAT TO ASK AT INTERVIEW

Just got my cdl. I’m in contact with a local company that I did not expect to even talk to me. They are setting every oil for an interview, and I’m not interested in being dazzled by a recruiter in an office and taking a job based of of what he tells me, because I wasn’t wiser to ask questions.

So that’s why I’m writing this

What are some questions to ask, or that you would’ve wished you asked at your Interview. What’s something that a company wouldn’t expect to hear asked? The questions they usually don’t disclose up front, and the important ones to ask.

This is all new so I appreciate any and all advice. Thanks in advance!

Tomorrows the big day

Tomorrows the day I’ve been waiting and training for for the last month. I test at 9. Finishing up my refresher days as I write this. My parallel left was a little sketchy. Not super confident. And my road driving has been good as well.

All in all I can not stop psyching myself out. I’ve got lots in my stomach and I just can’t get out of my own head. I know nerves are normal but any advice from anyone?

Cdl test tomorrow

I'm right there with ya man. My test is coming up in a couple weeks and I'm fretting myself away. The main thing is don't overthink it. An instructor told me once, "Don't think about it just do it." Watch your setup lines, and GO SLOW ON MANEUVERS. The slower you are the better. When you start going fast you miss things and that's when you make mistakes. Its designed for you to pass. Go get em.
