I'm a recent divorcee with two grown children and four grandchildren. I have always wanted to be a truck driver but family kept me grounded. I have worked in the same career for 25 years and am so bored. I love to keep my own company, love to camp and fish and travel. Sometimes I just get in the car and drive till I get tired. I decided that I would start living my dreams and registered for trucking school. I studied for my exams here on TT and passed on the first try. Now that I have my permit there is nothing stopping me from moving on.

I got a call from a recruiter from West Side Transport out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I googled them for info about the company and really didn't find much. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about them.

Hi vickie! I'm new to this site but have been driving solo for 15 years now. There are several driving schools you can go to for a decent cost. They walk you through all of the cdl tests and help place you with a company. Some companies will pay your tuition if you work for them for x amount of time or have their own driving schools they send new hires. Truck stops have books that tell you which companies will be a good 1st stepping stone to your new career. Best of luck!
Thanks Kim. I was actually contacted yesterday by CRST offering to help me get my CDL in exchange for an 8 month commitment. Everything they told me sounds pretty good. Hope Ive done the right thing agreeing to sign on with them. Any feedback would be appreciated. By the way, how scary is it really going through larger cities. My son say I'll never be able to handle it, but he's a guy with no faith in the power of women so....

Hello ladies my name is Vickie and I have always been interested in trucking for a living. (dream). First I married and raised children, worked 25 years as a CNA/CMA. Now I have it in my mind that the children are gone why not live my dream. So my question is, are there companies out there that train and hire totally inexperienced older lady wanna be truckers or is it best the go through a college or something to get the CDL first?? Again hi all and nice to meet you. Vickie
