smile.gif Hello ladies my name is Vickie and I have always been interested in trucking for a living. (dream). First I married and raised children, worked 25 years as a CNA/CMA. Now I have it in my mind that the children are gone why not live my dream. So my question is, are there companies out there that train and hire totally inexperienced older lady wanna be truckers or is it best the go through a college or something to get the CDL first?? Again hi all and nice to meet you. Vickie

Hi vickie! I'm new to this site but have been driving solo for 15 years now. There are several driving schools you can go to for a decent cost. They walk you through all of the cdl tests and help place you with a company. Some companies will pay your tuition if you work for them for x amount of time or have their own driving schools they send new hires. Truck stops have books that tell you which companies will be a good 1st stepping stone to your new career. Best of luck!

Thanks Kim. I was actually contacted yesterday by CRST offering to help me get my CDL in exchange for an 8 month commitment. Everything they told me sounds pretty good. Hope Ive done the right thing agreeing to sign on with them. Any feedback would be appreciated. By the way, how scary is it really going through larger cities. My son say I'll never be able to handle it, but he's a guy with no faith in the power of women so....

Vicki if I listened to all the negative crap I'd never would have learned to drive a stick sift truck, pull a trailer, pull baby calves, drive a 4020 John Deere tractor and put up my own hay. Woman aren't as strong as some men but we can do whatever we put our minds to just like our male counterparts. I get the job done which is all that's required. Yes turning a corner in the city will be a challenge but when first starting out it is that way for everyone.

Hi Vickie !!! Glad you found us !!! Now...on to your concerns.... There are HUNDREDS of trucking companies who will send you thru their cdl school, send you out with a trainer, and finally...put you in your own truck !!! So you can live your dream !!!! Now the hard truth....Be VERY careful who you sign up with !!! There are some things you need to know about trucking..and companies...So lets get a list of things you need to decide before you make your company cdl training decision...

So you want to drive team after training (with a stranger)?? CRST is a team only company.. Do you want to haul refrigerated or dry box, or flatbed freight ???? Do you want to get home on a regular basis ?? Some companies may not run where you live... Do you want to bring a pet with you after training ?? Some companies don't have a pet policy Do you want to bring family with you once in awhile?? some companies don't have a rider policy. Where do you want to run...east cost..west coast...mid america...southern states....

Don't worry about CRST, if you decide on another company to go with....they take rejection well...cuz they get alot of it... But its imperative that you make your decisions, so you will have some questions to ask the recruiter...

AND NEVER>>>NEVER>>>NEVER>>>> get into a lease, or lease to buy truck deal......lets face it...its cut throat, and we women are smarter than that...

So do your research...and come on back here if you have any questions....Answers are what we are all about !!!!!

WELCOME TO TRUCKING TRUTH !!!!
