Have the Rand 530 and I love it. Just make sure you're parameters are set correctly and most of you're routing issues will go away. Also, update your unit whenever one is available. As stated, its just another tool in my arsenal (Google Maps, atlas, etc). Good luck!

You did the right thing. Always err on the side of safety, I say. Personally, I always let a driver know if there's a problem with his/her equipment when possible.

The Rand does have an option to pick if you are hazmat or not and it will adjust accordingly
-Eckoh
Thanks Eckoh!
... it will do all those things you need as far as routing for specific loads. Just make sure you update the unit on their website whenever possible. Will be a great unit when all the kinks get worked out.
-Weatherman
Right on, Weatherman. Love your Odie pic. That's classic.
Thanks Guys!

Welcome, but that's Bill the Cat from the Bloom County cartoon strip, not Odie.

Bought the new Rand 530 when it came out. I love it, BUT, they're still working on updating the bugs and glitches, so buyer beware. The price has begun to come down on both new ones (530&730). Actually had to send my unit back to Rand last week for some work. But it will do all those things you need as far as routing for specific loads. Just make sure you update the unit on their website whenever possible. Will be a great unit when all the kinks get worked out.

Driving between midnight and 6:00 a.m. and stay awake
I personally don't like talking on the phone as from time to time you can find yourself concentrating more on the conversation than the road. Crack your window about a half inch, even if its cold. My personal activity is singing (Insert jokes here). XM radio and my music on my phone get lots of airplay at night. And as stated before, stop and take those power naps. 30-45 minutes really help.

Best advice I can pass along is just go slow and let the Jake Brake do the work. Never EVER get in a hurry descending a grade. If the posted speed is 35, I'm doing 30 (loaded) with full Jake and when my speed reaches 35 I'm on the brakes enough to bring my speed back to 30. Slower you descend with full Jake the less wear on the brakes. Good luck on the Grapevine! Remember my first time on it well. 44,000 lbs of produce from Salinas.

I know every city has its issues but I'm sure there are more Igmos in the Atlanta area than anywhere on Earth.

70 to 80mph wind gusts/Nor Beaster
All you guys and gals be careful out there. I got caught up in that first storm that buried Buffalo back in November and it was a mess. I got stuck on 20, in Elma New York for just over 36 hours and man was I ready to get the heck out of there lol.
You should've messaged Brett to come pull you out!

Unbelievable.......
So I'm sitting on the shoulder of I 20 near Covington, Georgia for almost an hour now with an exploded inside trailer tire. At least 150 trucks have passed by and not one call on the CB asking, "You alright there driver?" Its so sad out here the way things are now. moo
