Permit ? State School is in or you live in?

You will get your license in the state that you live in.. Typically they will just transfer it over to your home state from the state that you have tested in.

I would just call or send your recruiter an email and explain that you're considering obtaining your permit before you come into their academy and ask them whether or not there will be any issues with it. Also, you wont be able to take the tests for the permit until you get your DOT medical card (at least thats the case in Arizona!).

Blood Medication Pills./ Anti depressant.

I can't say for sure about the Zoloft, but as long as it doesn't state "Do not operate heavy machinery while taking this medication" on the bottle, its probably fine. Blood pressure meds do not disqualify you... Just make sure your blood pressure is under 140/90..

Avoid caffeine and really salty foods the day before and the day of the physical to be absolutely sure that you wont have any issues with it.

Joing truck driving School at Swift in Phoneix Az ~nervous jitters~ is it normal

Best of luck to you at the academy, Jacob. I should be starting there myself again in February. I unfortunately had to purchase a new CPAP machine in order to complete my DOT physical, as the one I've been using for several years didn't have data capabilities to prove my compliance to using it for at least 4 hours a night. Frustratingly, I have to use it for a minimum of 30 days before I am able to continue at the academy, despite the fact that I NEVER sleep for even 5 minutes without my CPAP. I am so used to it that I can't even fall asleep without that mask on my face. Guess that makes me a true hosehead. :D

Are you certain its the 28th that you're starting on, though? The classes start on Mondays, and the 28th is a Wednesday, unless you already have your DOT card and your permit (in which case you'll start training on Thursday morning at 5am, so you must mean you're going to check into their hotel on the 28th?). I'm hoping to get back in there by February 9th myself, or even sooner (Thursday the 5th) if I can get my permit. Maybe I'll see you there, though I probably wont be staying at the hotel, as I live in the Phoenix area. Though it being a 40 minute drive one way, it is tempting to use their lodging service anyways.

I'll at least have those 30 days for studying and going through the High Road Training Program, but I'm not yet sure if I can take the written exams before I get my medical card. If anyone reading this happens to know the answer to that, please let me know! :)

DOT Physical on hold

Thanks for the suggestion... I do not have insurance..

However, I was able to get a new prescription and purchase a machine with a monthly payment plan through easybreathe.com that will have the necessary DOT requirements.

Unfortunately, I will have to use it for 30 days before I am able to return to Swift's training academy.

I suppose if I look at the bright side, that gives me plenty of time to complete the High Road Training program and to get more than enough studying in to ace the written exams for the permit.

Any advice would help

I'm looking at leaving my recent job at a big tractor company as an assembler and already signed up to start school at a local college and take night classes to get my CDL. The reason i'm doing this is because i'm in the union and being in this union I bust my butt but don't get paid as good as the lazy ones. I really want to work a job that I get paid for the work I do and what I put into it. I know I have yet to start school but I like to stay ahead of the power curve and research companies now. What questions should be asked to these recruiters? The being away from family I understand being a 14 year vet with 5 deployments under me so my family is also used to it the travel. I have came to like 3 companies I have researched which are Schnider, TMC, and Werner. I would really like to have my choice decided before school so I can start my application while there. Thank you for any help. Jeff

Contact the company you want to work for and make sure they will hire graduates from your chosen school, first. You may also want to contact the school to see what kind of job placement programs they have.

DOT Physical on hold

Got my physical done at Swift's training academy in Phoenix, today, but unfortunately, I was put into "on hold" status until I obtain a new CPAP machine that can print a read out for 30 days of usage (I must use it for 30 days before returning also). I currently have a CPAP machine that only has very basic compliance numbers on an LCD screen, but could be faked by running it without actually wearing it (which is annoying to me, since I personally cannot even fall asleep without my CPAP machine anymore, I've been using it for so many years!).

I'm unsure about how to find a CPAP machine with remote downloading capability or smart card capabilities that are actually an affordable option as I'm currently unemployed, since I quit my previous job to go to Swift's training. Any suggestions as to how I can solve this issue so that I can return to Swift's academy would be greatly appreciated.

Trucker pay has fallen when adjusted for inflation

I have read Ayn's work. She has good points. Ayn (fascist) is also a extremist, just like Marxs (communist) and Smith (capitalist).

Alan Greenspan was a huge follower of Ayn's work, he used to go to her house for lessons. Alan also deregulated the banking industry and made it to where a homeless man could pull out a $100,000 home loan. We saw where that led. He even admits today how his ideology screwed things up.

Alan Greenspan unequivocally did not employ Ayn Rand's ideas during his two decades as Chairman of the Federal Reserve. He employed the opposite.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE GOOD OR BAD??

"Necroing" an old dead thread, but I am personally concerned about my own blood pressure.

I thought they would give a one-time three month card if your blood pressure is high and give you until the end of that time to get it under control.

I currently am taking medication for my blood pressure but I am worried because it is not coming down to under 140/90 and I am scheduled to start at Swift on Monday morning. Should I call Swift and cancel/reschedule until I am able to bring it under control, or try and go ahead and get the DOT physical done? Would there be any restrictions on getting a medical card at a later time if I fail and then get the problem sorted out at a later date?
