Question for the experienced drivers

No need to take your car to the Prime Pittston terminal. They have lots of freight going into & out of MA.

Now be aware that you will possibly be talked to about being a North East (NE) dedicated driver. The good/bad about that is that if your loads start/end in the NE you get an extra .05/mile and you could possibly be home a lot more often than most Prime drivers, bad is the lack of parking and most of the state (PA is really bad) roads in the NE in my opinion for the most part SUCK. But that is just my opinion.

I should be off too prime aug first . Got one more test to take forst time i went i passed alley dock sight and blind side parellel park second time i got pre trip and lane change bust found stuff messed up on truck diring pre trip so have to go back for the actual road test

Question for the experienced drivers

So im just about to go for my cdl test and i'm still looking into jobs . Im leaning towards Prime Inc due to their pay for training and on the road highest for rookies right now and great training. Now my big question is (which i will talk to my recruiter about but want the truth from u guys cause i know they will say anything to get you in the door) I live in Massachusetts and because i will have my licence when i go to prime i will be going to pennsylvania for training. Its only about 2 almost 3 hours away. Should i take my spare car to training so if they say we have no loads going to massachusetts i can take my car home for my days off? Has anyone done this? Remember it's my first year and this is very helpful info anyone that works at prime ? Got any details on this thanks.

Update on whats going on

That job sounds like a mixed blessing. Unfortunately you won't be getting any driving experience that way but you will get a lot of backing experience. So that's decent. The pay sounds pretty good and you'll be home every night so that's not bad either. The only real concern is if you were to get fired or wanted to move on after six months you'd probably have to take a refresher course before most companies would hire you. That's because you've had a CDL at that point for a while but haven't used it. You'd also be starting at the bottom of the pay scale.

Not all the companys are retarded there are good ones there too you may ask how do i know . I can tell by the way he talked to me as a rookie that doesnt even have his licence yet.

Someone talking nicely to you doesn't mean anything at all. He's trying to fill a position most people wouldn't want is all. Speak with some of their current drivers and they'll give you the inside scoop about the company.

Thanks Brett you always have good advice like i was saying be for i still have plenty of options u.s xspres prime schnieder and so many local jobs . When i get my licence i will have a little more pull also brett i was thinking about that 6 month down the road and on top of the refreshing class. Im not getting my licence to wash trucks . But again. Thanks brett for the advice

Update on whats going on

Just wanted to do a update. Still waiting on a road test. To finish getting my CDl hopefully i have a date this week. But i have been interacting and talking to alot of companys i talked to one this week this inperticular one i want to share cause it made me feel very successful. This companys name is J.P.Noonan i dont know if anyone knows or herd of this one but it is a tanker job they hall anything and everything from oil.food grate. To gasoline so i sent out my emale to this company and almost instantly got a responce of where do u live and how much exsperiance do u have. So i responded where i live and told hime how i just got out of school and i am a graduate. And any big company would say sorry and thats it. This guy sead to me thats ok . We have options . He. Offered me when. I get my licence to get hazmat and apply . Me being a recent graduate he asked me if i was intrested in Washing trucks and some maintenance on trucks at 20 bucks a hour for about a year to get my foot in the door. and after that i would move into the truck and drive to jobs . The job he offered me is basically moving trucks and trailers from yard to yard (across the street or down the street) alot of backing . Drop and hooks. Wash the truck check air lines make new ones if they need them . Fluids oil changes. This is by far not definite but it is a option . Not all the companys are retarded the I are good ones there too you may ask how do i know . I can tell by the way he talked to me as a rookie that doesnt even have his licence yet. That's all for know just wanted to share what has been going on .

As i poat this i did get a new test date . June 22nd all i got to do when i go is pre trip lane change and road part . (Massachusetts) i am still in the air on schieder prime and a few other but this is a option i got for home every night .

This is Trucking Truth, Us rookies (our wives our friends...) wanna to know how much they are going to make... We can tell them what our recruiters say... we can tell them what the complainers say... we know the money side is said to be about 30-35 a year to start... but that doesn't satisfy the mind. most recruiters say 2500 average... some complainers say less than 1000 miles... but that too does not satisfy the mind... its not a statistic of the Trucking Truth... I saw this question had been asked before with almost no answers... maybe we can get more company specific too...if all you want to shout out is the miles please share.

if you want to be more specific and want to help the to be rookies convince the other half...

And truthfully their will never be a exact amount unless u are on salary you may ask why know because everything plays a part weather . Way your truck runs . How u feel. Breakdowns traffic Every little thing comes to play as a rookie brett told me over and over again and he will probably pop in her sometime as a rookie you want to aim for 2000 to 2500 but as a rookie your first year is survival its a learning game . But to answer ur question in a example say one week you may run 2500 miles thats fantastic but how ok so u didnt hit much traffic no bad weather u wernt tired when u were driving and the weather was good. Say the next week u only due 1800 now ask why say you are going thrww Texas and their is a tornado warning and winds are high . U wont be driving well u shouldn't or your truck breakes down these are all things too determin it verys week to week thats about all i can tell u

the average of your hypothetical situations is (2500+1800)/2=2150 :)

for the money average... lets say a really good rookie will get 35k

lets say he gets 30 cpm to start.

he drove 50 weeks.

35,000/50=700 per week

700/.30=2333 per week. we know thats not a perfect every week thing...

some weeks might be 500 miles because you waited 2 days for a load then it snows then you left your glad hands connected after dropping then...

but theres gotta be an average...

maybe i should ask: whats the lowest miles you have had this year in any given week? what is the best miles you have had this year in any given week?

my wife is nervous because her friends husband works for the company i am headed too and they said they gotta $33 check one time... that's like 150 miles...i dont know him so i havent conversed to see the story.

i show her 6 strings and Errol Vs posts to get her back on the bright side.

That would be correct but i regiment look into alot of companys get as many pre hire letters as u can so u have options I

Starting my new journey

So as many of u know i started off was going to go to prime inc for school then i desided i would do private school here at my home town chicopee Massachusetts and i was in a debate between warner . Schneider or prime inc well im here for a update and a question so here we go i am all done with school now and i test for my cdl on aprill 2nd 2015i am pretty confident have picked everything up very nicely and quick if and when i pass i have desided to go with prime they are offering the best pay for me as a rookie and im prob going to do north east it pays a little more if i do lightweight now my question is for anyone that works for prime i didnt see any threads on this . The closest terminal to me is in Pennsylvania i am curiouse tho when i come home for hometime i know i take my truck with me but what about my trailer does that go to Pennsylvania or? And if so do i have to pay for my gas from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts or is that on them too?

I drive for Werner, and live north of Minneapolis, nearest terminal is 400 plus miles away, I can either drop my trailer at a drop yard 25 miles away, or take it home, I always drop it, much easier.

How is the pay at werner?
