There was a time when management hired people to intimidate strikers which many times led to injuries and sometimes death. it his a heated issue from every angle, ultimately the working man/women needs to find away to get a bigger piece of the pie.this web site in many ways is an informal union ,helping one another get started in trucking,suceed and excel in a very difficult business.even though I have not had to use my cdl I enjoy many of the stories and adventures. the people with the money have formed their own union to destroy unions and have done quite well.

scabing a strike is like someone coming in and lowballing you at your job.it is hard to maintain a good working wage under those conditions

I have been a member of the teamsters,laborers and 23 years with UAW also worked non-union construction for many years. Many of the things for and against unions hold true to some extent or another,but the retirement benefits are priceless unless you want to work your old age away. I know most companies offer 401 and the like make sure you are enrolled and contributing as much as possible you wont be young forever.

I just got a speeding ticket going through Oregon. I'm so upset because I worked so hard to maintain the speed limit all day at 55. Then a decline caught me of guard. Before I knew it I was flying down at 65+. The police officer said 70. I could be fired from my job because of this. The ticket says 69 mph. It's embarrassing as this is my first month truck driving and I've already jeopardized my career. It just Anders me so much that I was aware of speeding and I still screwed up. It only took a second to ruin my day. Any advice on what to do next? Im going to let my company know, but good grief I've barely been out a month and already got a ticket.

would it be possible to hire a lawyer and pay the fine and the lawyer and keep the points off your record. it work with automobile tickets if your driving record is decent. would definitly be more costly but would save you money on your personal ins. and keep points off your record

maybe you ahould have your husband drive solo while you keep things together at home

My name is Whitney and I am 28 years old. Me and my husband have been considering getting our CDL's and doing a team route for about a year now. I have 2 children from a previous marriage but I only have them half of the time. We are very close to them so family and home time is very important. With that being said, my husband and I just found out that we are getting laid off here in a couple of weeks. So we are thinking this might be the perfect time to make this decision. This is his second time being laid off through a warehouse position. We want a more stable life for the kids and we want to be able to give them the start at life that our parents couldn't give us. We have thought about trying to get a degree in something but that takes 2 to 4 years before a person starts seeing any paychecks and by that time your buried in debt. I have a son (he will be 9 next month) and a daughter (she is 7). We are currently renting a two bedroom (kids are sharing a bedroom) apartment (cheapest rent in town) and barely get by when we got 40 hrs per week. The kids are getting older and know more about their bodies and stuff then I did at 12. So I know we have to get into a three bedroom soon especially since the the kids dad is a jerk and is just waiting for a reason to try to take me back to court to get the kids. My husband and I have been doing extensive research on several companies but I hear people saying that companies will say they can get you home on weekends or a couple days a week but then when they get you out OTR, they change their mind. Is this true, can they do that? My dad was with marten and fleet master and both companies did that to him. This is something that I would like to do because of the money but also because I love to travel and see new places. I also love my kids and don't want to give up all my time with them. Any advice would helpful. Thanks!

would it be healthy for the bird cold weather could be harmful

I am currently enrolling into a trucking school that starts this summer, I'm going for the long haul.

I was wondering if it is legal/acceptable to bring my small companion parrot with me in the cab, I have had my bird for over ten years and we are inseparable now. I don't want to leave my bird at home with the family as she is strongly bonded with me. Does anyone out there know of any other parrots OTR? Most importantly any trucking companies that allow companion birds?

/As a side note, my bird loves going for car rides (it's when she is happiest actually)...
