I'm 25 years old, and I was born and raised in the Atlanta Area. Now I live in the Dallas area. I moved to Dallas, Texas from Rochester, NY because my company promoted me to being a student driver trainer for a sweet dedicated account out of Laredo TX but needs trainers based out of Dallas near the terminal. I have driven dryvan, reefer, hazmat, and fuel tankers (gasoline and diesel) and motor coaches for a total of about 400,000 safe miles

Need help and input for an aunt's eyes
Hey all I have an aunt who wants to be a trucker and she tried going to a school for it but they said she can't get a class A cuz of her eyes but could get a class B.. Can someone explain this to me? I know she really wants to be a trucker and I was wondering if there was maybe a way for her to get her class A another way?
Any input or suggestions are appreciated!! Thanks in advance and be safe y'all!!

Almost Finished With Training!!
I am glad everything is working out! I just moved on to Phase 2 with Schneider. I meet my TE ON Monday. I bet you will be glad to be home a few days😁
Thanks!! Sorry it took so long to get back with you. Went home, got the wife and 5 days off then took her with me then did a dollar general load and got switched to best buy out of Findlay Ohio. I like that a lot better! Its no touch freight and a lot easier backing!!

Almost Finished With Training!!
Hey all its been a long time sunce ive posted here. (Since mid-August I think.)
Ok so I got my cdl class A July 31st in Rochester,NY. I went back to Knight after I got my cdl. It was between Knight and Werner. Knight turned out to be a mistake.. So I left. I'm glad I learned my lesson. Basically, I should have gone with Werner and not gone back to Knights. And that's all I'm gonna say about it. Both are great companies. I have nothing bad to say about either one. So after I left Knight I went to Werner's orientation the next day in Allentown PA. After orientation our class got 3 rental cars and got transferred to Indianapolis Indiana and Springfield Ohio to wait for trainers. I started out otr and changed my mind to Dollar General Dedicated. It's a lot more money and home every week, but its a lot more work because you have to unload all of your own trailers and you go to 3-5 stores every trailer. Its great home time and money but you have to want to work hard. Im gonna run in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, and Southern Maine. Im gonna be dispatched out of Bethel, PA. Tomorrow is my last day on my trainer's truck!! I'm super excited!!! Next I'm going to the company headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska for some additional training. (Not everyone does this. It's special circumstances but its gonna help me be a better driver.) After I pass the additional training they are gonna promote me in Omaha Nebraska to a qualified driver and assign me my own truck and dispatch me some loads to go to an orientation in Bethel, PA. Then after that I'll finally be able to go home before going on my own for much needed r&r!! I've not been home since August 18th.
Until next time, be safe y'all!!!

Congratulations! Let us know how it goes over at Knight! What division are you going into?
Thanks!! Sorry it took me forever to get back to you, I have been busy getting things figured out. Lol OK so I'm actually going to Knight and I'm leaving earlier than the 23rd. I was originally going to do regional dryvan out of Carlisle PA but I found out there is a 2 1/2 month waiting list for trainers out of Carlisle. So I called Werner to do a dedicated account but I found out that Knight could run me out of Columbus Ohio as an otr refrigerated driver and have me leave out on the 9th of August and start orientation on the 10th so that's the option I sent with.
(I did call werner back and apologized to them and informed them that I had a better offer so they could take my name off the list and give my spot to someone else to tie up loose ends and be responsible and respectful.)

Finding a training program close to my,nj,ct and p.a
Trying to find a company sponsored program close (or close enough to ny).. tried paying for training out of pocket but the classes are just an hour and they keep telling me that the automatic tractor is easier but I want to learn on the stick...any advice would be appreciated. .thanks
Hi, l financed at Smith and Solomon at the Linden, NJ campus. I re-tested 4 times without extra pay. Financing is another option.
Where are you willing to go? There are a few good schools in upstate NY, and I think that there might be a Sage Trucking school or something similar nearby. Also you could try looking into college campuses that offer a CDL course. They might except pell grant and other financial aid be more flexible in the learning curve, and possibly offer housing and/or meals.

Trans Am Trucking... Whole new life...
Hey all, its Tim again. So I'm still working through the WIA process to get schooling approved and paid for, and I did research and it seems as tho Trans Am Trucking as an Otr Driver is my best option.. Long story short, the govt takes forever with everything, my lease is up in early August on our trailer and if school goes as planned I'll start 6/1/15 and graduate 7/10/15. So I talked with the wife and she wants to come with me and live on the road to save on expenses and save money. We live in Rochester, NY and we are trying to figure out a lot of things to make it work. Trans Am has 2 terminals, 1 in Dallas Texas, and the other in Kansas City? So we have a car that's financed and want to get rid of it when we can but I'm concerned about transportation; you can take home time in any zip code they go to, but we don't have a clue what to do with our car.. Do we store it, or what? Also on home time if we want to explore, how do we get around? Its not like we can haul the car with us.. Ideas insight and advice would be greatly appreciated:)

Without knowing what made you flunk out, it's a little tough to give you advice... Was there one particular thing you were having too much trouble with? Was there something in your back ground that made Knight cut ties with you? Too many unknowns here. I do know there have been plenty of folks who have not been successful their first time out of the gate that have ended up getting their CDL's.
Well for starters, I'm more of a book learner than a hands on learner. They told me at the end week 1 you will have an evaluation and progression to week 2 depends on successfully doing a pre-trip inspection with 54/70 items minimum as per Indiana DOT regs, and competency driving and shifting using the double clutch method moving forwards and doing all basic skills maneuvers must be at no less than 80%. Is that a realistic expectation? I'm fine with the pre-trip. I could do that no problem. I wasn't the best shifter but not the worst either. But it took me way longer to figure out how to shift and drive than most others. And we also didn't get any seat time doing the basic skills maneuvers. I was told 6 out of 10 don't make it through the progression test to move on to week 2. The day before my evaluation they pulled me aside and they said if you do the evaluation tomorrow realistically you have a very slim chance of passing it and progressing to week 2 so you can go home today, or you can take your test tomorrow and if you make it which isnt realistic, great! But if you dont make it then youll be sent home and terminated. If you go home today voluntairily though, you can always come back once you have your cdl license and work for knight. I just don't want the same thing happening where it takes me too long to catch on and not being able to get my license at school. I know they won't fire me cuz I don't work for them but I don't want to have to withdraw from the program either. Hope that gives you more detail on the situation. Thanks again for your help.

Hey all, Timothy Matthys here. I went to Knight's CDL Program in mid February to early March and didn't make it.. So I went home and put my CDL goal on the back burner for a bit and now I'm giving it another go. Instead of going to a company for training, I'm going to a local private school here in the Rochester, NY area. If I flunked out of Knight's CDL Program, I'm really wondering am I cut out for this or was Knight just not the right fit for me? They did have an accelerated program but I don't wanna flunk twice... Advice?

Earl L. Henderson Trucking Reviews
Welcome aboard Timothy!
I live in Attica, NY and years ago I lived in Norcross, GA.......right off Jimmy Carter Blvd.........
I've heard of Earl Henderson but I didn't even know they had a training program. So I'm afraid at this point you've been the one to give me some insights, not the other way around. I'm gonna have to find out more about it......
I actually changed my mind. I am pre-hired and ready to go at Knight Transportation. I will start on Feb. 16th. in Carlisle, PA.They have a much more personal and home time oriented training program:) Also as a pleasant surprise, they are not only paying me for school and training, they are also letting my wife come to orientation with me since we have only been married about 5 1/2-6 months and they know that trucking is a life change not just a career change. We just have to pick up the price of her bus tickets.

Earl L. Henderson Trucking Reviews
Hi all:) My name is Timothy Matthys. I live in Rochester, NY. Long story short, I moved up from Norcross, GA back in July of 2014 to get married to my fiancé from Rochester, NY in August 2014. I have my class A Permit because I studied the CDL book and did lots of online testing and had lots of help and review from the Trucking Truth training series and I gained lots of insight from the website which is like my best friend in trucking:) So I'm getting prepared to go to School at Earl L Henderson on February 16th and become a company driver for them and once I'm done training I'm gonna take my wife on the road with me. Does anyone have reviews about their company or real life experience with their company? Any feedback is appreciated!! Thanks:)

Need help and input for an aunt's eyes
Thanks! I thought so too something just didnt make sense about what they told her.. She has to pass the test by covering one eye but she can't do that with one eye.. I think that's why they said no.. She needs the one eye to read with the other.. If that makes sense
