I have a cdl that I haven't used since I got it in June 2018. I have been driving a small box truck since November 2018. Gvw 16000 so nowhere near enough to use my cdl. I am wondering what are the chances that a Utah company number 1, takes my cdl as valid, number 2, does short drives and back like 4 or 5 hours one way and then back and lastly 3, runs automatic transmissions. RV transport is another thing I was looking at.

Might want to look again. There is simply way too much competition out there to make RV transport a viable option.

One of my wife's family members tried it. Bought a brand new Chevy dually and hit the road toting RVs all over the country. 3 years later the truck is broken down, has 450k miles on it with practically no resale value, and still costs him $700 a month. He finally gave up and now drives a rig for Logistics One to get himself out of debt.

Thanks you guys are very helpful. RV transport is another thing I was looking at. But that is probably a lot worse than hotshot would even be. I am also interested in new truck transport but I need more info on it and it needs to be consistent. Packrat made very good points about getting a used tractor for around 40k and it will last longer. Finally there is local stuff I am interested in. Maybe driving a dump truck or something. I applied for a job operating a passenger train where it said having a cdl is helpful. Thanks guys you're awesome.

Does anyone have knowledge or experience on this? I am in Utah. I have a 20k to 30k budget for a truck. Would diesel be the only option or is heavy duty gas fine? How do I get consistent work? Has anybody just used a business loan for all these expenses? Thanks

Hey guys I need opinions on what to do in my situation. I live in the salt lake city area and I recieved a CDL from the community college in June 2018. I then looked for a lot of trucking jobs and didn't have any luck. My record was bad. I had too many tickets in a short amount of time. Nothing reckless or alcohol related ever. The only company that accepted me for a driving job was Cintas in November 2018. I drive to grand junction and back to slc 4 times a week. It's a job where I dont even use my cdl because the truck I drive is a small box truck. 16000 gvw. Now, in February 2020 I haven't had a ticket since mid 2017. I am wondering if a company would even take my cdl seriously having not driven a commercial vehicle for that long. I have doubles and triples and tanker endorsements. I learned on a 13 speed and although I was good at it, I found it made me look at the tachometer too much and I'd end up not paying attention to the road and swerve out of my lane a little. So if theres one requirement I have for a company to drive for it's an automatic transmission. That way while I have very little experience, the only thing I have to worry about is controlling the rig. So what should I do? Thanks guys.

Hi guys. I obtained a CDL last year in June. I had a bad driving record and many companies would not give me a chance. I now have 2 tickets in a 3 year period on my MVR. Never had a DUI. Cintas is the only company that accepted my record for a driving job. So for the last year I have driven a Cintas truck from salt lake city where I live, to grand junction Colorado and back 4 times a week. It's a 24 foot freightliner box truck with a 16000 gvw. So I haven't even been using my cdl. I got my cdl at salt lake community college. We learned on freightliner cascadia trucks with 13 speed transmissions.

I say all this because I dont know what to do now. I'd like to actually use my cdl and go to a local company and see if I can get a local or regional job. I dont know if they'll even look at my cdl as valid. I never really had much problem shifting but with mostly automatic transmissions on these large fleets now I dont think they'd care anyway.

What do you guys think I should do? I almost feel nervous thinking about getting back into the seat of a big rig again. Having to shift gears properly while handling the rig properly while obeying traffic laws etc. Which is why getting an auto would help. Thanks

If you're interested in local, see if FedEx freight has any driver apprentice openings. They'll accept your CDL, but you'll have to complete the program to get an offer letter, but it's worth it in my opinion.
