Safety tips for Women Truckers

Hmmm...maybe one could call 911, say, "Hey, I'm a lone female being pulled over. Will you stay on the line with me until the officer's identity is verified?" Then you've got someone on the line who can hear what's going on and hopefully aren't too lazy to pay attention??

We were poor too, but the city had an olympic sized pool at the main park uptown........25 cents for a 3 hour swim....When kids got out and actually walked where ever we wanted to go on summer breaks. Even if it was way on the other side of town, lol less chance for mom to find us chores to do. I "thought" I was cool and could swim around 11-12 , showing off I dove off deep end diving board. Next thing I know lifeguards saving me dumb butt, sent me back to the 3 foot end lol....Wasn't long after I learnt to swim, fun memories

this makes me think of the scene in The Sandlot with squints where he jumps into the deep end so the hot lifeguard saves him and does mouth to mouth, then he kisses her.

You're killing me, Smalls! Lol

Amazing Rescue

My wife just told me about this last night. It happened just a few miles from our house. Of course, with her being the huge worry wort that she is, things like this make her worry about me even more, lol.

The fact that this had a nice ending should help??? I know, WOMEN!! Right?? LOL

I'm glad he's alive, but how does one not ever learn to swim? That's like a life necessity. You don't have to go swimming all the time, but at least learn.

it's actually quite common nowadays. I have found it's either a result of people's parents not knowing how to swim or that AND growing up lower class. the first part tends to result in no desire to swim because their parents don't... parents never take them to water parks, the beach, pools, etc so they never have a reason to learn, the 2nd part growing up lower class you have a mixture of the first reason but also parents can't afford swim lessons or have nothing to teach their children in.

In most cities though there's a lot of organizations that will give free or discounted lessons.. but you gotta find them and when reason #1 hits people don't seek them out.

glad the driver was ok however I'm curious as to what exactly caused him to lose control... was he not paying attention, driving to fast, etc. if the road is wet you always need to exercise more caution.

I don't swim well because 1.) My mom is terrified of water and 2.) We were pretty poor. Luckily, I was a bit of a rebel and learned a little bit on my own!! These days, however, I am OUT OF SHAPE!

How much does it cost to eat at diners?

Well i thought the whole point to being a truck driver was to eat out at the best diners that the states have.

I'm sorry, I had to laugh. Guy Fieri's job is to eat at the best Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. A trucker's job is to keep freight moving and keep from going stir crazy :p You're too funny :)

If I could make a couple of recommedations: start studying for the CDL permit and the pre-trip inspection and get your DOT physical before coming here. The physical will cost you a little more but you'll save at least half a day or more of pain on the first day (giving you a little more time to study for the CDL permit).

Thanks to the advice here, I already have the manual printed and am waiting on a refund to get my physical. I'm no spring chicken and I don't want to get a few hundred miles from home only to be denied for health reasons. Hoping to start after August 15.

Did I read correctly that your wife also went?? Would love a female perspective! Click on my name to send a private message.

Thank you!!
