Old school, i think he has gone through everything on this site already. I am sure if he could actually get in the truck and operate it, it would be much easier. I am not there but what i am gathering from what he has tokd me they give you a scenario and you have to map it out. A guy talked to him last night whononly runs paper logs and helped him much better than the instructor. So i am hoping today will be a better day for him. Unfortunately he was so worried he would mess up the driving test, this did not seem to be a big deal to him

No, this is just the orientation trainer. This is 5th day. His recruiter told him he would know by Thursday if he makes it but the next person that sets up orientation said it would be Monday before he knows. I definitely know what you mean about quitting. Thank you Error for the link. I will send to him. He has always appreciated the way you help others in this group.☺

First i want to say to this group thanks for all your info. My hubby has wanted to be a truck driver all his life. He has had his CDL since he was 18 but never driven and kept logs. He started oerientation this week at Melton. He was mainly concerned about the driving test but that went fine. He is starting his 5th day but he has had trouble getting the logbooks since it is all new. The trainer was pretty rough about it yesterday but have heard you will know by 4th day if you will make it. My question is, do the trainers try to weed the quitters out, like a teacher at the first semester of school? Thanks, just looking to see how others felt it went during orientation

You GOTTA share what you are doing.. can't just say this and leave us all wondering We are looking to start by April and looking at what type of foods to stock up on or NOT. Congrats on the loss!!!

So i'm watching a guy trying to back into a dock around another truck on one side and a wall on the other. It was a tight so I mean no room at all to maneuver. He gave up and went inside for help I assume. There was the truck driver sitting inside his truck washing his windows and mirrors never watching or caring that the guy could have took off his fender. Is this what I have to look foward to? When I start trucking if I see someone who needs help and all I'm doing is NOTHING I will be out helping them not sitting on my butt. I hope this not how people do others in this business. I started to get out and direct but didn't know how he would react cause I had pulled off the side of the road aways from him although now I wish I had. I am so disappointed I hope none of you that read this ever act this way.

That's just craziness! Hahahaha! Glad I don't have to learn something like this! It seems unsafe to take his hands off the wheel like that.

And am I correct that he's not using his clutch?

He didn't have to take his hand off the wheel. I can't shift using the clutch lol

It's up to you like everyone said. I personally hate my Career as an Industrial Electrician. I started out as a helper making $12/hr & now I'm a NCCER Certified Electrician making $30/hr it's good money & it pays the bills but it's very miserable to go to a job Everyday that you hate/ Dread waking up in the morning to do so. I work long days & up to 84 hrs a week. I think I will like trucking & can't wait to try it out! Worst case scenario if things don't work out for me in trucking I can always go back to Electrical work. Always gonna be a need for Electricians.

I gave up my job making $36/hr to drive truck.

Not because I will make more money (I won't) but because I hated my job and love driving.

For me it wasn't about the money, it was about being happy.

same for me I can retire from a job in seven years where I sit on my rear most of the day and play on my phone and hate every minute of it. I love trucks and so I am doing it.

I just thought of something. All the major carriers apparently have awesome driver facilities throughout the US (depending on the carrier). I'm impressed with the ones Prime offers (and I'm concentrating on them since that's who I'm planning on going with after CDL school), and I'm looking forward to visiting them.

But my question is this: How often do drivers actually get to any of those terminals? It seems, from what I see people posting here, that they rarely, if ever, are at a company drop yard/terminal. Is this usually the case? I know it will vary based on routing, trip planning, etc. I'm just looking for generalities.

two of the people I follow on you tube go by there's a lot. You have to go in for maintenance also.

Z, I was just looking through your comment history a little bit and I think it's safe to say you're quite a bit less than pleased with a lot of things in life and in trucking these days, wouldn't you agree?

Not only that, but the incidents you mentioned just now are not even the entire list it seems.

Friend, I'm gonna be perfectly honest. You are your own worst enemy right now. You're just miserable. You're driving recklessly, you're impatient with everyone and everything - you're just in a bad place right now and by that I mean in your mind, not at Swift.

So yeah, you need a change, that's for sure. But changing companies isn't going to solve your real problems and I think you know that. I don't know you so I don't know what those problems may be and I don't need to know. What I do know is that you're not going to change companies and find happiness. The company you work for has nothing to do with it. Every company has its good and bad.

one thing I have learned and it's not a bad thing is if you complain a lot on here someone is going to call you out on it. I guess that's why it's called trucking truth.
