New Podcast Episode 7: Dealing With Law Enforcement

Got the V on my license and my OEF/POW/MIA decals on the back window of the car, its gotten me a few more warnings than I probably deserved.

Only one time it backfired: me and a buddy from Ranger Batt. were on block leave at the same time so we took his car around town, two Army grunts out to paint the town red. Cue red & blues for an illegal Uturn (sign wasnt visible due to graffiti) and what do we have? Well its a motorcycle cop, and my buddys being a bit ****y, (thats putting it mild, but he was young) he sees the mil ID, sees the decals on my buddies car, and pulls up his sleeve.

he was a Navy motorcycle cop . Gave my buddy a 250$ ticket for the illegal turn, and added a 100$ excessive display of power ticket because his tires skid a bit on gravel when he made said turn. Had he been polite, or at least professional, we probably would've gotten away with a stern warning and a few shots at our pride.

Update on my life

Happy Birthday Big Scott,

"The years between fifty and seventy are the hardest. You are always being asked to do things, and yet you are not decrepit enough to turn them down." T.S. Eliot

Good luck, and give em' hell.

Community College or company owned school?

Another thing that comes into play, is if your state offers aid for vocational training, Im aware that some unemployment programs will pay for your CDL training; so if youre in that boat the slower pace and lack of a bill/repayment a CC or school may be the better option.

But as the knowledgeable gentlemen above me said, it depends on your personal circumstances, and how you prefer to learn; if you know high stress environments arent conducive to your learning style, then company training may not be for you. If you thrive in chaos, or perform better under pressure, a school may drive absolutely mad.

Guess I am one of the lucky ones!!!

Just a question, but won't a military waiver cover the skills test if he has that experience?

I think the veterans comment meant trucking vets (since he mentioned rookie right before it) but to answer your question:

The military skills test waiver form may be used by service members who are currently licensed and who are or were employed within the past year (12 months) in a military position requiring the operation of a military motor vehicle equivalent to a Commercial Motor Vehicle.

Tips for going on a military installation

Rainy, I lived on post in the barracks for 2 years @ Fort Bliss, and I couldn't get pizza or takeout because no one could ever find my street, and I couldnt even order things online because the road/address 'didnt exist' good times! rofl-3.gif

And this was a question from a practice CDL test I took this evening. qqUb289.jpg

Tips for going on a military installation

Ill be 100% with you, if you can find the commisary or the BX/PX stop there and ask a soldier for directions. A lot of the bases do construction often and change things about, Fort Bliss being one of the biggest offenders.

Ive never driven a semi through any post Ive been on, but Ive driven 15ton M1200 Knight and an 18ton MRAP and if you don't know where you're going, you're not likely to find it on your own. The locals will be much more knowledgeable!

Also, make sure you have your identification ready, and prepare for a vehicle inspection (depends on readiness levels)

Started Class at CNM for Truck Driving. Hopefully this is the start of a new career!

Most excellent, sounds like youre knocking it out of the park! The instructor not hearing you/not marking the items is a blessing in disguise, like you mentioned with the state examiner if they dont hear it, it didnt happen. It also helps you slow it down so you don't actually miss something when you're doing it for the examiner.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Keep it up highspeed!
