38 and need help

My mom is ok to take care of herself around the house and we live in a really small town. So she will hace my truck to drive 5 blocks to the store.

Although she isnt getting better and neither is my uncle. This is why i must do this as soon as possible. Before it gets the point where I can not anymore. Then I won't be stuck begwren a rock and a hard place. I'll just be stuck until older and then living on the streets.

First off, my condolences for your uncle's health.

Secondly, you do not mention how handicapped your mother is. Will she have someone to help her when you are on the road? Most companies that offer free schooling require you to drive OTR for several months after you complete your training, and you have to pay them back from your pay as you do so. Your uncle will also need assistance in his final months, if the diagnosis are correct and he doesn't have a remarkable recovery.

If you have already considered these things, then apologies, but I just wanted to be sure you weren't expecting to get a company sponsored CDL, then be able to be home regularly for your family.

If you do have help, and can go OTR, then the links above are great!

How much do they pay you while your training? Another thing that worries me. Is right now I am having to see a doctor once a month. I'm not sure how that will be handled.

Yeah prime will pay you while in training. Search "my prime PSD experience" I have a long detailed thread but my phone won't post the link. Best decision I ever made. Good luck

38 and need help

38 and Need to know the best way to get into trucking. It's not only my best choice. I think I will enjoy it.

(Background) I have been living with my mentally ill uncle and my disabled mom. My uncle and I are the only ones with income. I live in a crappy town with no oportunities really. Me and my uncle split the bills. We are just getting by. The hospital down here told us a month ago he had pneumonia. Come to find out he has throat cancer, colon cancer and lung cancer. Thankfully he is in a better hospital right now. He will be coming home soon. They give him about 6 months. So i have got to find a way in. Not only will I lose my uncle I may even lose the house. ( Its Complicated)

I have heard horror stories of trucking schools that "pay" for your school. I am pretty much dead broke. We lived check to check. I dont know of ma y ways to get grants for schooling. I only knew of 1 way and they ran out of grant money after sending 3 people.

Another thing that worries me. I was arrested for felony possession of marijuana 15 or so years ago. I was sentenced to 2 years probation with random drug screens. If I didbt get in any trouble it was supposed to be erased off my record. In my town in Louisiana even personal amounts of marijuana is a felony if it was your 2nd offense. (At least it used to be. I think they changed it to a misdemeanor last year) I havent been in any kind of trouble in 15 years.

I figured a community of truck drivers was the best place to find the answers I am looking for. I am pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place.
