Unfortunately I process a lot of such claims G-Town.... if the 2 companies agree not to report it then everything will be ok.... if the other company wanna be nasal about it then they will report it just to get money especially the smaller companies... so I hope it was one of the big boys that was hit who will disregard it. Since I always have to request loss history from companies before I can offer them a quote I do see a lot of docks hits and trailers claims

I got in my first accident. In the receivers yard. My trailer scraped the corner of a dropped trailer. The receiver said it was between my company and the trailers company. It was a non roadway accident with only the two companies involved no dot involved. Does this go on my cdl or is this just on my company record?

Cornelius I respectfully disagree. You stated an opinion...an opinion that is purely speculative at this point.

If the damage to the trailer was considered incidental and agreed as such by both carriers involved (which we don't really know yet, but sounds like that was the case), there will BE NO REPAIR needed. So there will be nothing reported. It was a corner strike...one of the toughest parts of a trailer, and for the very reason Rick shared, it gets hit, a lot. Unless there is a puncture or slice to the side sheets (exposing the interior to the elements), or structural damage; no carrier is going to waste their shop resources or place a trailer OOS to repair a cosmetic ding, dent or scratch. Good grief Cornelius...do you say these things to scare the sh** out of newbies?

To reiterate what I already said, many times carriers WILL NOT report something incidental to a driver's MVR or make a record of it in their company driver file.

Rick,...buddy, if you are still with us, shake it off. It happens, and is expected from rookie drivers. Learn from it (G.O.A.L.), move on and try NOT to let it happen again.

It will appear on your MVR as a not at fault accident since a police report was file and it will also show on your companies insurance even if they repaired it their self. All the companies that do their own repairs still have to report the accidents to their insurance carriers.

I was in Shreveport today just entering the on ramp to i49 south. I was still speeding up when this flatbed comes along besides me and his load tips over to the right, and right into my truck and trailer. Neither of us were in each others lane or anything. It is just that there was a slight curve going left and he took it fast enough that these big old john deer pieces he was carrying tilted over far enough that the things hit me.

Problem now is he either did not notice it or he purposely just kept going. I did not get his number or even his company, he was too far ahead to see anything after I got enough sense to look. My jb hunt truck was governed at 61 mph and his was not so there was no hope to catch up with him.

There was no damage to my truck, just a big scrape on the trailer, nothing too serious. I called my company's safety department and they had me file a police report for the hit and run. I have another load tomorrow so I am still employed and all but was not told how this will be classified. Even if it is considered as a non preventable accident I still do not even want that to go on my record.

Anyone have an experience like that? How did it end up?

What's the funniest thing you've seen on the road?

A funny claim we had last year. This school bus company that we insure had a driver who went and picked up a hooker and had sex with her in the bus.... well after all was done they started fighting over how much he was supposed to give , he wanted to give $15 but she wanted $20, then they got into a shoving match and she fell lol ..... all things done and said she filled a claim and ended up having 25000 reasons to smile ...lol

New Article From Old School About Buying Or Leasing A Truck

Ok ... there is one thing that makes the smaller trucking companies fail: The cost of insurance. Why is that important in what I am going to say is that a lot of smaller guys come with no business plans in place, think they can game the system by interchanging vehicles , violating all kind of DOT codes on the highway, and be successful: They always end up failing. So an owner who understood that Maintaining a good FMCSA score was his key to success, that is an owner that came already with a well thought plan. What small owners do not understand is that everything they do on the road , the insurance companies SEE and by the time no company wants to insure you , that is when they realize that being a wise guy was to their disadvantage, yes they made a lot of money for a short time then boom gone like a wind. Saw a company go from 100 trucks to one because what happened: safer rating got turned into conditional kicking auto liability to 18k per truck not including physical damage and cargo whereas the guy who kept it clean is paying 2k per truck. So this guy came after haven done his homework : I have to maintain clean safer ratings, my drivers will be hourly 1099 or W2 drivers so that they are not out there killing my insurance and FMCSA score because they are trying to pile up miles, my O/Os get terminated after 3 violations, I will hire a team of salesmen to go out there and look for direct contracts with the companies I will be delivering for , only my O/Os will be doing OTR and I will minimize the loads I get from brokers : IT WORKED. So that is how one goes from 1 truck to 100+ and make 7 digits a year.

Okay, all the BIGS do that and are successful at it. Very profitable though...? My definition; very profitable is 40% GPM. Rather unheard of in any commodity type business. Please explain what is so clever about his business plan that makes it very profitable. Curious, that's all.

Murphy came to visit me this morning.

I started today knowing I was 76 miles from my delivery. I planned on rolling at 05:00 to be there at 07:00. Start the truck for my pretrip and Murphy was here. My ABS lights would not go out. I would have jusf rolled if it wasn't for the yellow light on the side of my trailer that says "pull me over". After trying several things, I determined it was the truck and at about 05:10, I said screw it and started rolling. Before I got out of the truck stop the trailer light went out. A few feet down the road the light on my dash went out. Then I figured I could make up time before I got to the DC beltway and traffic. Hello Murphy. A truck decided to wreck on I 70 just after the weigh station. Ha ha ha. I called Ops/dispatch to tell them I was running late. I got here about 10 minutes late, which means no detention pay for me. Thankfully their were other trucks in my way to p*** the customer off more than me running late. Sometimes no matter how well you plan it can blow up in your face just that quick. Yes, I could have planned to roll at 04:00. Ha ha on me. Thanks for the visit Mr. Murphy.

And just to be on record I think I have always be an advocate of new drivers to stay with the big guys for at least 2 years before trying to venture out because I see the trials and tribulations that drivers without 2 years of CDL go through when they try to venture out early. The insurance rates are a killer on them...... which is why I will always advocate stay with the big guys for a minimum of 2 years before starting to to think about anything else.... anyways seeing
