End of my career before it started
Well I was on my second week of school day one. Feeling good I was running a little late got to class 8 min late. Instructor with a salty tone said you need to be here on time so you get the most road time/ truck time (this will play into my story). Little salty but I understand for a 3 week course.
Well last week I posted that topic to help other vets who had VA insurance only about the problem I am experiencing. (https://www.truckingtruth.com/truckers-forum/Topic-17536/Page-1/va-and-driving-school) Well getting briefed on what going on today we (me and this other vet) get told our doctor release aren't good enough and to stand fast. Well they weren't ok I understand my wording they are incorrect it said truck instead of commercial vehicle. And the director who been out since school started chimes in that needs to say this not that ok again would be fine knowing this Friday that the info was not up to parAfter our doctor already sent stuff in. The VA is a large machine that you just cannot go up to and get stuff done. And with my one med release the clinic was down for two days the doc had to go to different clinic just to do something I had no contact no email with them. So even if I drive the hour back to my house I have to drive another half hour to find out if the clinic was open. Wasting time and fuel. So the instructor gives us this ultimatum. He said since we assumed with that salty attitude the release where good which I never seen mine it got fax over. You can try call your doc get it change today dribble road later today or do it tomorrow. Well what was this weekend? What is the VA ? a federal government. It's closed today going back to my statement above I'm missing out on road time that is upmost important. So I went to the director I asked if he ran this place he said yes I said it bull snot(for censorship) what going on. The recruiter I was dealing was in the room at the same time I said I applied over a month ago as I said that the recruiter pivoted on his right foot armed crossed was right in my face. I said you need to get out of my face numerous and the director kicked me out. One of the instructor who was dealing with us this morning told me to leave I went to my car chilled out. The director came out asked why I was still here. I said so I am getting kicked out of school? He said yes I said I would like a letter saying so. He said no I said I would he said he would call the cops. Then I left. There goes my Gi bill money money to get up to school and and to get my permit.
Sorry for the long rant and rambling. Here something else I don't understand he kept saying it for dot. I passed the dot physical. What I feel like it's for them to make people miss class and fail test twice to pay the extra hundred dollars (yea it's just hundred buck but that still more then what I have in my pocket right now) to retake it just spit balling and never be able to prove it.

Okay so this is day 3 of driving school for me. (I'll update my diary ) but I want to put a post out that will help veterans that might have medical issues i.e. Meds surgery cpap etc. my situation I have VA medical only so all my doctor issues go through the VA. I went my DOT physical and only needed the results for my cpap not a problem being in Indiana my sleep study is in Louisville. I was able to get a hold of someone.and they print it out. That the easy part. Here the problem the school needs memo from your doctor releasing you on certain thing I listed above. Me was med and cpap to drive there vehicle. Not a problem if you have normal doctor access but I've been on hold one time for an hour and now 14 min. I can't get ahold of any doctor. What I recommend is sit down two to three weeks before or longer and talk to school see if they'll need doctor release notes. Sorry for the long winded and I hope easily readable post y'all drive safe Rabbito

Best personal vehicle to let sit.
I add my two cents I don't think it really matter what typ of car it is that sitting as long as maintaining some up keep with. But what is be more worried about with long sitting vehicle is varmit i.e. Rats mice cats etc making a home in the dormit vehicle.

I am goin to a school but the main question is do companies rather higher someone with no cdl then going through a school. And I'm going through cdl school in Indiana called TDI
Well I start school in the 27 of dec I'll try to keep this diary updated. This is a pretty good forum with a lot of knowledge here.
What school or company?
Real quick, and sorry I didn't see it sooner. It's advisable to make every reasonable effort to commit to your first driving job for a year. There are a lot of reasons behind this; primary of which is that it will take you the better part of a year to become an efficient and safe driver. At the one year point, you have a plethora of opportunities and as if a big door opened up, same thing holds true with your current employer.
Trust me when I say this,...if you are good, they will not want you to leave and might be willing to work with you a little closer to meet your requirements with satisfactory adjustments.
Good luck!

Mine plugs into a modem. I just never done it before I guess when it comes time I'll have to learn how to do it lol.
It won't end it. Like I said before...you might have to buy a new machine that transmits the info to the company via a modem. That way you don't need to go to a terminal every month.
My company pays for the machines up front and you pay them back weekly for like $25-$50.

Mine reads on a chip and the machine itself. I was worried my dad been driving truck for 26 years and snores like a diesel truck running a few short cylinder. But he won't get check out because he afraid it will end his driving career. That what had me worried
Ok sorry to change subject here but still about cpap. I'm trying to get into a school for cdl I've had a cpap for over two years I use it daily. Will this cause problem with the physical etc? Also if you don't like the full mask look into the nasel pillow ( http://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks/nasal-pillow-cpap-mask.php this was just a website to show what it looks like) I like this one if you roll or move the mask doesn't slide off your face. Again sorry and thanks
If you have a CPAP and use it daily, you will be fine, BUT the machine must record your usage, and the company needs to be able to access that data to verify it. You may have to buy a new CPAP machine if your machine does not record data, OR if the company can't read the data it generates.

Okay thanks. This is what I need some view of people who have the knowledge. I can see the husband and wife make it out better. Thanks for the info.
There can still be a debate, team driving works for some people, not for others.
My vote: thumbs down.
You and your buddy go into a residential bathroom, and stay there for at least 10 hours. You can do something like watch TV, and the other tries to sleep at the same time. (Rule #1: don't use the commode, since you don't have one on the truck.) Then swap for another 10 hours.
Even the money thing is debatable. The CPM for a team member is less than a solo driver, but you also get paid miles your buddy drives. And it really comes out almost the same as solo OTR, anyway.
The people who come out ahead on team driving are husband & wife teams.

Well name is Rodger everyone calls me Rabbit. Trying to get prepared for this school up in Sellersburg Indiana. Just waiting on the VA to send me my letter. I'll be the third generation trucker of the family not by choice. My school closed down and I'm sitting on worthless credit.
One additional reason to choose a Paid CDL Training Programs
I'm kinda of confused by this. If I go company training route I'm stuck with that company. Not saying I'm going to jump companies but being military I don't really want to sign a contract if I can get my school paid for. Does it look better if I go in with just coming out of CDL school or is it better to be stuck with one company?

End of my career before it started
To the one less hot head comment off the road it's cool. Because I've been driving back and forth on my dime wasting my time when I should be in class. I been dealing with it for a week being polite and nice. And the tipping point came out. Thanks Brett for the info I understand jumping through hoops. And deal with all the time. Dirtyred the VA is one broken system that get worse each and every day. And yea a paying it back is what I fear. I just don't know
