Getting back in after 9 years off

From what I have researched... It's due mainly to state regulations on driving records. Some states won't give out the proper information, thats why prime told me they sometimes put a Freeze on hiring out of florida.

Lease or Purchase?

Just a note to you about O/O

I am currently finishing my Dual major Automotive Engineering Technology / Heavy Equipment repair with Ferris state Univ and I have been asking some of my professors about this and they all say the same thing. "It's too risky."

Prof. Walters did it fairly successfully but he was also a Master diesel tech and had that and a business so if his truck went down he took it to the shop repaired whatever it needed and was back out again.

He also told me it was more of a hobby that paid for itself... lol

I agree with everyone on here about it. It's mainly ego. There really is no reason to O/O or lease unless you have decided you want to play Russian roulette with your livelihood.

Does this ban me from truck driving?

It's in Ludington, Michigan thats where the courts located. Problem is the judge knows my family up there so if I tried to send an attorney he would probably get ****ed deny it and call my grandma on me. This is definately something I need to do personally, plus I remember i was told by the judge that after 3 years it would be set aside well its been 4 years now and it's still on my record.

Swift, Schnieder, Knight, Stevens, Millis, Prime. So far Prime is the only one still working with me. Knight was downright mean I was really surprised the guys name was kevin told me I was an idiot and hung up on me. The rest were really polite and explained what I needed to do. Since it's a misdmeanor some companies take those on a case by case basis. I am still working on getting things cleared up selling off my cars/trucks right now, while looking for a somewhat decent job that I can lose myself into for another year if I can't find a company to take me.

Does this ban me from truck driving?

ok I had an OWI it was a misdmeanor 4 yrs ago that has since been paid off. It shows up on a MVR but it says it is no longer affecting my driving record? I also had a 5 over speeding ticket 3years ago that also says the same thing.. That confused me first off. So is my career over before it begins? Are there company sponsored training programs that will allow me to drive? I don't even drink anymore not that it matters. I can get a TWIC card I am eligible found that out today. Schnieder & Swift said they have to be atleast 5 years old before I get considered. What companies will take me at this point?

Can someone point me in the right direction?

I am considering a career change to truck driving, but I can't make up my mind.

Kinda have a love/hate you right now Brett and all the other experienced drivers rofl-3.gif jk Every time you guys say something I realize just how little experience I have in comparison it honestly makes me a little jealous. embarrassed.gif

But in all truthfulness I think this forum is an amazing place Kylan, the men and women here won't sugar coat anything. You get the benefit of hundreds of combined years of experience, Million's upon millions of miles driven in so many different weather conditions, traffic conditions, etc, etc. If it's happened chances are they have experienced it.

I am in the same boat as you right now except I have applications in too Prime and swift. I have been reading everything I can, studying my butt off.

Just go for it dude, You will probably regret if you don't give it a shot.

@Brett & @RedGator seriously you should start a stickied thread with these messages about how to deal with DM's it's nice to see the "big company" approach and the "family business' approach they are alot alike but I think different on some key points.

But in all seriousness how does going to the boss not **** off your DM even if you explain the reason?

Bud I am going to be honest with you. It's one of those things where you do your research and then do it again. Once you have a company you want to work for just do it. Take the next year as an experiment to test yourself. You might love it or you might hate it, However in that year you have gained marketable skills a nice little paycheck and a greater appreciation of good ole Merica ;)

So just git'er done :)
