Hard Lesson Learned

My trainer told me to count all holes open or not. For example if I want 6 I start at the first hole and count six. Usually our 2-4 is the stop bar, but we count that hole as well.

Self destruct button? LOL

Supposedly it's the alert everyone alarm. It sends signals to dispatch and safety, then dispatches fire and rescue as well as police.

That's what my trainer told me.

Public service announcement!!!

This is more fir the rookies like myself. Its Sept. 1st that means chains must be in your truck for I70 at least west of Denver. (I forgot the exact mile marker posts). And starting next month all those winters stayes will begin their months when you must have them in the truck. Not all states start in October some in November. Some don't have month ranges they just expect you to have them if the weather requires them.

This has been your public service announcement....

My CDL Training Diary With Prime Inc

Paul I think it's 1year before you can be experienced driver, but don't quote me on that.

As for the backing, I was very bad at it in training. To this day I still have mess ups out there. Once I went solo and it was on me to do all maneuvers it just got better. Like practice makes perfect. Plus all the stress and pressure we put on ourselves in training to learn fast and safe but to get out there and make money for whatever reason we have also plays s part in why we suck in training. At least that's how it was fir me.

Dispatch wants me to take a 34 hr reset in a loading dock?!

My two cents, trying not to repeat others here. I would have first seen if I could get to the shipper get loaded and then get to a nearby truckstop. I know some have good on their trucks, but that's not always the case for everyone. I have food once I get out of a terminal and in about 10 days it's gone. As a rookie I have a fear of Walmart lots after almost getting stuck in two since I have been solo.

Anyways back to my point don't reject the load right away, try and find a solution that gets you what you need and the carrier what they need. They need you on that load and you need amenities when you stop. Maybe you would have to take a 10 or longer to get hours back after midnight. Then do your 34 as soon as you can safely park. Just always try and find a way to fit both in. If you can't just know your job is to haul freight. That will always be first.

Prime Inc. Agility Test

Wow none of that was done at their Salt Lake terminal. They got a guy from Springfield their now, not sure if they have added that in yet.

Drive time

It depends. So in his scenario he used 6 hours of his drive time. So he would have 5 left. But after taking a 4 hour break he is down to 4 hours left in his 14. He still has 5 hours left to drive. If he takes 8 in the sleeper then his 14 hour clock would be 14 minus the hours he was on duty between the 4 hour break and his 8 hour sleep. His drive time would be11 minus the time spent driving between the two breaks.

It's like when he takes the 4 hour break that's the start of the 10. But he interrupts it. So he has to take 8 to get any real hours back.

Now if you run all day and you stop with 2 hours on your clock, after 8 in the sleeper you will get those 2 back. But if I had a 2 hour or longer break before I went in the sleeper then the rules above apply.

If you are logged as sleeper you should get back two hours. If I understand the 8/10 split properly.

Drive time

Your drive time only deducts when the truck is driving or if you switch over to drive while you are sitting. However given the scenario you gave us you drive for 6 hours then wanted to sleep for 4. You would only have 4 hours left in your day to get work done. You would have to do 8 more hours in the sleeper, or take a full 10 hour break to get more 14 hour day time back

Equipment on truck

Not sure about all companies, but Prime allows it. Hell they even have deals with DIRECTV that you can do. They do the install everything.

I am doing something different so I don't know all the details, but I'm sure someone on here can fill in the gaps I have left behind.

Get used to this type of sitting. Just this week I sat at a Loves in Kentucky for over 50 hours. Some places are not open on weekends, ometimes Sales will give you a large window to deliver a 700 mile run. It happens. Moreso when your solo.
