Following this forum for a little while...now I have joined the conversation! Hoping to start with Knight or Wilson... thoughts?

Knight/ swift has an amazing network of terminals, you can roll into a lot of major cities any time of day and have parking, a blessing in denver puyallup, indiana etc., also no forced dispatch will keep you outta new england :)

You can confirm with the reno terminal that i have a **** poor attitude, it is amazing that through the years they treat me like a top tier driver with my wild mood swings, you happen to work in a sweat shop on wheels, nothing will change at another company except the name on your truck, from my experience i cycle through months of uncontrollable anger to mild depression to exceptance that this is truly a terrible job and cant believe people think its a badge of honor to work 7 days a week, 90 hours a week at roughly 35 percent unpaid work, you just gotta keep pushing on and hitting the planet fitness hard af

How many of yall would be a self driving truck tester? As an employee of knight, i might consider if asked.

Maximum chaining

Andrey,

Knight provided me with standard chains to drive on, i go max 25 mph , but i see folks doing 40 sometimes, it is also a chain graveyard over i80 donner after a storm, people throwing off poorly installed chains

Davy A,

No shame in not chaining, it is a high risk activity that could prematurely end a driving career should you end up wrecking,

What buisness would you have worked for with knight if had you taken that 250 a day job?

Unfortunately accounts come and go, making long term plans is not possible, as soon as the contract is up the company may or may not get it again, i am just enjoying this ride as i dont know how long it will last. But a company as large as knight swift is, the right hand doesnt know what the left is doing, there are so many opportunitys and accounts out of all the terminals i am not worried.

Maximum chaining

Harvey,

If i have to chain, i can usually only make it reno, to modesto, then back up to sacramento and shut down because i do not have enough time to chain both ways

Maximum chaining

Harvey,

I get paid 300 a day as long as i have done everything i can to work, if all is clear and no set backs i usually can complete the run in 9.5 to 10 hours of driving.

A couple weeks ago i only drove 6 hours because donner pass was closed and had to shut down in sacramento and still got 300, pretty sweet deal :)

John miller,

I was able to miss most of the record snow and deviated from normal duties, last tuesday ran a load up to washington, then back down to bakersfield, then I sat in sacramento monday and tuesday this week waiting for the pass to open, made it over donner this morning and am now back to normal duties of round trip reno to modesto trips

Laura, On a good day, i can throw 6 chains in 27 minutes, my all time record, much loke life, some days they install like butter over hot biscuits, and other days everything is a tangled mess :)

Davy, thanks for that response

Chris, it could be run the other way, we have a large drop yard in Modesto, the Reno terminal dispatches employees that live around Modesto

PackRat, considering i cross donner 10x a week, and winter is just getting started, it is crucial I speak with dispatch at knight and see if the company approves my use of autosocks, untold amount of time could be saved

PackRat, I do not know if California would let you through the checkpoint with autosocks, if any one knows the answer please chime in
