I am on a dedicated account with knight, running 5 weekly roundtrips from reno to modesto for a flat rate of 300 a day, 1500 a week with 2 days off a week for hiking in tahoe, with all the snow this week i had the honor of chaining daily, sharing some pictures of the weeks adventures on donner pass :)

Better you than me. My chains are quite happy inside their bags and will stay there.

With that amount of total snow coverage on the road surface, I would be using Auto Socks. I can do the truck and trailer in 15 minutes.

PackRat, I do not know if California would let you through the checkpoint with autosocks, if any one knows the answer please chime in

Legal for all the Lower 48.

That's why I wrote that I would have been using them. I know where Donner is.

PackRat, considering i cross donner 10x a week, and winter is just getting started, it is crucial I speak with dispatch at knight and see if the company approves my use of autosocks, untold amount of time could be saved

Fwiw, I asked about that, also siped snow tires for the drives. The answer was corporate will never approve. Unofficially they said if we have to chain up, it's just to get to a safe spot and shut down

James,

You mentioned before that they need others to do the same route. It's way too early for me to be looking for a job, but I live in Acampo, CA and I love the donner pass area. I'd be excited every day to drive that in the snow.

Is the route strictly from reno to Modesto to Reno? IE, can it be Modesto to Reno to Modesto? I'm jealous, btw. How many hours does it take you in the snow and ice versus when it's clear?

Davy, thanks for that response

Chris, it could be run the other way, we have a large drop yard in Modesto, the Reno terminal dispatches employees that live around Modesto

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
