Congratulations on your accomplishment! Is Felix still teaching there? He was my favorite when I went through the Corsicana academy.

Didnt meet a Felix. Had Marc Charles Charlie and his brother Danny, John and Zac. All of em great instructors.

Swift training in Corsicana

Was a long 3 weeks but I made it. Wasnt able to post. Phone got wet and quit working on me 4 days in. First few days I wondered what I had gotten myself into, but it all came out in the end, had a great time. The school challenging, fast paced and intense. Lots of info piled on you but its done in such a way to easily understand if you pay attention and take notes. Plenty of range time both on and off site. Very challenging test course thru part of town also.

All my instructors were very knowledgeable and eager to help you if you ask for it. first week was downstairs for the bus at 530, school runs 6-4. Couple days of class room learning how to read maps do logs and legal stuff. then on to the backing range to learn how to straightline backing pre trip and air brake test. 2nd week runs 4-2...You go to what is affectionately known as the desert. The back lot is a cliche lot. uneven ground and lots of rocks. Good heavy soled shoes or boots are highly recommended, drink alot of water and take sunscreen! offset backing and parallel parking is the name of the game back there. It all sounds difficult at first but soon as you see the angle it completely changes! IF you can get in the box in the desert you can do it pretty much anywhere! 4am does make for an early day but does get you out of the heat, for that i was very thankful.

Third week is shifting and road driving. Got to drive to the Lancaster terminal Wednesday. Picked up shifting quickly and didnt have any issues with it. Had a room mostly to myself for 2 weeks. First weeks roommate left. Just wasnt what he wanted to do. 2nd weeks roommate was really loud. Asked the hotel staff for help and they quickly moved him with someone in his class. 3rd week had a really good roommate. Only issue a bunch of us had was one instructor would show you one way to do a maneuver and another one would come around and say thats all wrong do it this way. It got a little confusing wound up doing a little bit of what they both said, it worked for me!

Anyone considering going to Corsicana for training Id say go for it. Well worth the time!

As for me I completed my DOT test this am at 730. Orientation is set for Aug 7th in Lancaster where I will get paired up with my Mentor and hit the road!!!!

Swift training in Corsicana

Made it to Corsicana for training. First day was lots and lots of signing paperwork Drug test and then right Into training and homework. Fast paced yet easy to understand. Just pay attention and youll be fine.

Thought id touch on the motel here that Swift puts you In for your stay while attending school here. Its a La Quinta. Very nice place. Pool hot tub weight room. Laundry facilities in the motel are $3.00 to wash 2.50 for the dryer. Also they do have a shuttle that will take you to Wal mart and a grocery store on Mondays and Thursdays. I drove down not knowing of the shuttle. I would have probably taken a bus had I known. Tomorrow is the first day we get range time. Ill post up more tomorrow. If you have any questions feel free to ask an ill answer soon as I can.

The adventure begins...

The dreaded DOT Physical and permit test...here we go!

Well that sounds like a hoot Patrick! The folks here in the small town i live in didnt have any idea what to do around motorcycles, some still dont. Only 1 or 2 other bikes around here till i got mine...now theres a whopping 12 of us! Riding has definitely got me paying more attention to whats going on all around me. I'll get there in a truck to Im confident, although I should concentrate my attention on training first. The idiots will come later

The dreaded DOT Physical and permit test...here we go!

Thanks Big Scott, Ill remember that. Only 2 things that worry me so far are the idiots in cars and backing. Of course Ive never backed or even driven a truck before....Ive been a spotter more times than i can count and have backed all kinds of trailers, behind various pickups and u-hauls as well as backing ambulances, and firetrucks into tight bays. I am going under the assumption its the same theory as backing any trailer with the exception of needing more room! Looking ahead to idiots in cars, I have to deal with them on a motorcycle daily now and can almost spot the car thats gona be a bonehead before i get to em. I feel that's gona pay off on the road for sure
