Tomorrow is the big day. Going to take my first DOT physical tomorrow afternoon. Not to worried about it, just ready to get it over with! Afterwards I will be taking my permit tests either Friday or Monday, depending on where i can catch our DMV lady. We have one person here that covers several surrounding towns, some of her offices have computers to test on some dont... Some of them work, some dont! Once I pass the physical and permit test Ill will be off to Swift training in Corsicana Texas and Im thankful for the opportunity and ready to get to it!

Now for my ugly moment of truth sorry.gif Honestly, at first, I was not thrilled about going to Swift. I sadly bought into all the swift haters and their dozen or so old crash videos and all the trash talking Swift goes thru these days. After talking to several drivers in person doing a little research myself and all the info here on TT, It dawned on me that not too long ago it was JB Hunt that was the target of every ones hateration and trash talking!

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Congratulations!! Good luck with your training. Remember every problem or frustration you have in training has been had by many before you.

Thanks Big Scott, Ill remember that. Only 2 things that worry me so far are the idiots in cars and backing. Of course Ive never backed or even driven a truck before....Ive been a spotter more times than i can count and have backed all kinds of trailers, behind various pickups and u-hauls as well as backing ambulances, and firetrucks into tight bays. I am going under the assumption its the same theory as backing any trailer with the exception of needing more room! Looking ahead to idiots in cars, I have to deal with them on a motorcycle daily now and can almost spot the car thats gona be a bonehead before i get to em. I feel that's gona pay off on the road for sure

On a motorcycle cars don't see you. In a big rig, they do, but they decide to go all stupid. Also the closer you are to them, the less intelligent they become.

Example: a car is merging from an on ramp. You are in the right hand lane and they are ahead of you. Simple math is they continue accelerating and merge in front of you. Nope they begin letting off the gas and pumping their brakes.. you move over one lane. All of sudden intelligence returns to them and they quickly accelerate to highway speeds and merge like normal.

Well that sounds like a hoot Patrick! The folks here in the small town i live in didnt have any idea what to do around motorcycles, some still dont. Only 1 or 2 other bikes around here till i got mine...now theres a whopping 12 of us! Riding has definitely got me paying more attention to whats going on all around me. I'll get there in a truck to Im confident, although I should concentrate my attention on training first. The idiots will come later
