Rookie who can’t stand otr training

Even if you didnt have that non preventable on your record, no other company could or would hire you. You signed a contract that says you can't work for anyone else until you pay your training fee in full. If they did hire you, Prime can sue them & win.

Now you have to work extra hard to be safe. I did it & am still doing it. By Gods grace you can succeed & achieve a better opportunity for yourself. It's never free & let's face it, nothing worthwhile ever is.

Crying is fine. Just dont linger there. Find the strength & pull through it.

You are boxed in young lady. If you leave now, you in the hole for whatever amount is on your contract. If I'm not mistaken, Prime has a clause that says you can't drive for anyone else until you pay whatever balance it is, IN FULL!

I'm with you, this OTR is not for everyone. I tried to go regional with 2 different companies & failed miserably. They said I'd have to do OTR until a slot opened on the regional route. Didnt make nearly as much money as I do at Prime, I'm back at Prime on my way to WY where the wind gusts were 40-60 mph today. Yay!

You're got a tough decision to make. Stick it out & get those miles & nice money. Get the experience you need to get hired by a more suitable company that'll fit your needs.

Oh & if I can give you one last piece of advise. The grass is not greener on the other by coincidence, you still have to fertilize & work that grass to make it really green. Remember, no pain, no gain.

Living overseas for 15 years, want to drive, DOT employment requirements.

As an expat, didn't you have to pay taxes on your earnings? If you did then your tax returns will help get you sorted out. If not? Then you'll have to do as midnight fox recommended. Good luck!

Strange Tales From The Road

No way pete i think your fibbing i drive 287 nightly ive never seen such a responsible act. For me the freakiest thing is to see bad accidents happen whether its 4 wheelers or cmvs its scary

Agreed. Saw this explorer go over the guardrail & down the side of the hill. She panicked when a rig pulled out from the shoulder & swerved left & right for a quarter mile, slammed in the brakes, skidded right over the rail. Mind you, she was in the center lane, rig was nowhere near her. Luckily, her & her friends walked away from that ish!

Reefers

Finally had to quit Prime after 21 months because of that reefer noise messing up my sleep, went dry van with night, same money, more "normal" hour delivery times, no more wasted hours getting trailer wash outs, and many more quality of life improvements, and no more disrupted sleep

This makes no sense to me. At Knight you have to run that truck engine all day & night. Theres no APU so you have to run the engine in the summer for A/C & start-stop for heat. I met one driver who didnt shut off his truck for a week! What's the difference between running that truck engine all night & running the reefer periodically when it's on stop/start?

Oh, and about dry van at Knight? I was told that I may sit for a day or two trying to find an empty trailer in certain areas. Everything has it's good & bad. Shoot, try being that dude in NYC that's paying $2,500 a month for an apartment right next to the train that runs every 10 minutes during rush hour. After a few months, they dont even hear that train. Same with the reefer.

Another HOS question

If I run an average of 8.5 hours daily, I'll never run out of hours. 70 ÷ 8.5 = 8.2 days

But again, you dont need to worry about that cause you'll definitely get a fresh clock after the 4 days. You're only concern is running your 14/10/8 clocks legally & making sure you do your pre/post trips on duty each day you run your truck. Not necessary when truck is parked for the day.

Another HOS question

So at the end of 8 days if you still have not worked a full 80 hours but you have done everything else - the 10, the 8, the 30 minute break - the clock resets whether you have taken 34 hours or not? From your reply. it seems if you do it that way the 34-hour limit would never kick in. But, you're right - I'll get one anyway, because I will be there for the entire convention (the NAMM convention which lasts four days).

Negative. The 70 only resets after a 34 hour off duty or sleeper berth status.

After 8 days, the hours you drove 8 days prior get added back to your 70 hour clock. Referred to as recaps.

Stuck with super singles

double-quotes-start.png

Ain't nothing fast & easy about throwing iron on super singles!! 🤬

double-quotes-end.png

I wasn’t talking about a set of regular chains. STRAP ON TIRE CHAINS. Look them up.

Wish I had known about these last year. Got stuck twice in parking lots, both in MI. Had to throw on regular chains both times to get out. Worst part is that after 1 hour to get unstuck at one place, a front loader showed up to pull out another truck that got stuck too. Talk about pouring salt on a wound.
