O/D Pulling an RGN as a Newbie!

double-quotes-start.png

I understand you are talking about hauling oversized equipment of some sort, and I feel kinda dumb asking the question. But what does O/D and RGN stand for?

double-quotes-end.png

O/D is "over dimensional," i.e., > 13'6" high, > 8'6" wide, > 53' long, or a combination of those.

RGN is "removable gooseneck," which is a type of trailer that allows the gooseneck to be detached from the trailer, making it easier to drive heavy equipment onto the deck. The gooseneck is reattached and the truck can pull away the whole load.

A volvo like that was my second ever load. Lots of things were or could have gone wrong that day.

O/D Pulling an RGN as a Newbie!

As Bud said, I did it but was nowhere near safe in the beginning as I had no training. Be respectful but not fearful. Personally, I would not put someone new in the drivers seat. There are exceptions to every rule but for a new driver to start out in OD or heavy loads no way. Say you screw up and hit a bridge or something else, being a new driver your career is all but over. I have moved all kinds of stuff from lumber to 140 foot bridge beams. Good experience but I would not want to go that route knowing what I know now.

Road Kill

I got me a doe on US 10 in Wisconsin between Fairchild and Neillsville. Coming around a corner at dusk. Deer ran out from the woods on the inside of the corner. Struck the front left corner of the truck. Took out my left head light assy, destroyed the left corner of my bumper and the left fender portion of the hood.

Did you get some back strap?

Do you fear autonomous trucking technology?

There are also several segments of trucking that will never be able to utilize automated trucks.

Tankers

Heavy Haul

Oversized

Logging

Paving

Dirt hauling

Garbage trucks

Those are just a few off the top of my head. Hanging meat is another one. It handles much differently than a load of beer.

It's just a little rough on the outside. If you leaf it alone it will die on its own.

What is my punishment?

I'm awaiting trial. Since I have deceived and hidden my dark secrets from some of you for years now I am wondering what will come of this?

I have participated in the "L" word side of this industry and have not come clean to many of you. I have indulged in the darkest sins of TT.

Am I to be stripped of my title, and the title be passed onto Pat for his many years of honest service to this website?

If so, I understand.

Hate to tell you, I am ineligible for the title as I own my own truck.

As for your punishment, you have to complete your honey do list.
