Veriha, Swift, or Prime

Liz I am not going to offer anything that should influence your decision. I could easily sell you on Swift, but it's not "who I am" or what I stand for.

Your thought process on this needs to shift from an outward focus on the company to more of an inward focus on Liz. Every company represented that offers Paid CDL Training Programs provides a great opportunity for any motivated and focused driver to learn and eventually succeed.

I am going to leave you with this thought...the same things Rainy (Kearsey) loves about Prime are likely similar if not identical to the things I love about Swift. Does that surprise you? She could be wildly successful with Swift, as I could be wildly successful with Prime. It's not usually about the company but about the driver; their character, their work ethic and their moxie.

Good drivers can be successful with most any company. Please think about that for a bit and when I have more time I'll provide the details of "why" I continue to drive for Swift.

Thank you for the clarity G-Town. I think what you just said helped immensely. I believe that I fell into the overthinking trap. I do tend to be an over thinker. Lil late here will fill y’all in a later.

Thanks again

Liz proximity to a terminal should not be a significant factor in choosing a company.

Swift has a Terminal in Jonestown PA; within 2 miles of the PA RT 72 exit off I-81, about a mile north of the I-78 junction.

Prime is really good company and so is Swift. Terminal location is a minor consideration.

Thanks G-Town., see I’m a noob. Just one factor not a make or break. So tell me. What do you love about Swift? What do you wish was better? I’ve spoke with Autumn for a bit she is set to sent me to Ut. I know sales peoples but seems like good companies make the choice difficult lol I like the idea of a dedicated after my first year maybe with weekends off. Both offer this so I’m close on my decision.

I’m not asking for what they could do better part as a negative bashing thing. More on the constructive side.

Kearsey any room on that truck for a noob. I mean I’d try not to ding it up

The privilege of being a company driver is that if you bang it up too much, i just get a new truck. I had a student who got sooo upset when she would grind my gears. I told her "its 2 years old. They will be taking it from.me.in 6 mons. Grind away I don't care".

Kearsey, may I ask what do you love about Prime? What do you think would need improvement? Prime is kinda my leaning atm, Pittston sits in the middle of my family scattered from NJ to Pittsburgh/Ohio and in between. I emailed Derek to get in touch with me this week.

Thanks

Liz is particular:

I really just wasn’t to make sure the training is above par

Think: your teenage kid wants to borrow the car for a road trip on Thanksgiving weekend. I'll bet my paycheck (rhetorically) you will be certain the car comes back without a scratch.

Same for any truck company - they will need to trust you with a $250k tractor and the freight. No one is going to slack off in company sponsored training.

Perfect way to describe it ty. 🤔😊

You would test in pittston PA at prime then go back to NJ and get the CDL.

Prime testing in MO has since changed and they do it the same as PA and UT now.

Thanks for all the feed back. I still a bit hung up but decided otr for the first year is what I need to do for now. I really just wasn’t to make sure the training is above par. I grab things and run with it to be the best and have a company that provides the support to do that. I do like the idea of descent pay while in training too. Anyway hoping on making my decision real soon. Kearsey any room on that truck for a noob. I mean I’d try not to ding it up. 😆

Thank you everyone for the input so far.

Liz investigates:

double-quotes-start.png

G-town. Swift’s recruiter stated they could hook me up with Walmart as well.

double-quotes-end.png

I drove for Swift, got my start with their Academy. In my first year I drove in divisions for OTR, Line Haul and Regional (which includes Texas to Georgia in the South). Enjoyed them all. (Then I went back to the Academy as an Instructor!) I'm posting to say this: If you can get into the Walmart account, do it! First, in the time I've been on, G-Town has had nothing at all bad to say about his Walmart experience. And I did some Walmart "surge"/additional support for a few weeks delivering deli-dairy-frozen reefers in Missouri. I loved it, but I was based too far from home - a surge assignment is only temporary anyway.

Thanks. Quick question if I go down to North Carolina do the do your final cdl testing down there or will I get sent back up here for it. I left Autumn a message to get back to me.

Welcome Liz!

How about that...location, location.

I delivered to the Williamstown, Egg Harbor Township and Rio Grande Walmart’s today. Just got back to the DC. Beautiful day for driving.

I’ve been with Swift for over 6 years now; Walmart Grocery Dedicated. Happy to answer any questions.

Good luck!

Yay! Another South Jerseyan. As Kearsey mentioned, I live in Woodstown. No shortage of farm markets around there. Well, actually I live over the road. I just visit Woodstown for 4 days every couple months. smile.gif

Obviously I recommend Prime. Although to be honest, you can be happy and earn a good amount of money from any company you choose to go with.

As you look through this site, ask questions, and learn more as a result, no doubt, you will be more able to make a decision that suits you best.

Thank you for the input. I am in Williamstown. I am familiar with woodstown my one supplier was down there. Yeah with our farm market they opened a big box down the street and biz headed south. I am use to working for myself and challenging myself to be the best that I can be.

I will ask questions as they arise. Right now just nervous as all get out cause we’ll, steady check and bennies for the past 4 yrs.

As I typed I had a question pop into my head.

Going to Pittson, does Prime, do you final testing up there or send u back to Jersey?

I’ve lurked here for a little bit. I just got my CLP and looking to be paid while I train cause you know.... bills. I have narrowed or maybe not narrowed down my choices to the three above. I have my email full of info from their recruiters any insight or experiences about them. My background, greenhouse grower/ farm market chick for 20yrs. Use to drive. 14 and then 24’ strait box for deliveries. Big box stores did me in, been working retail for four years. Everyday I die a lil more inside. Lol. I need to get back out there.

Thanks

Where are you at?

I’m located in southern New Jersey, outside of Philadelphia. Travel to me is not an issue. Prime wants to send me to Pa, Swift to North Carolina, and Veriha is in Wisconsin for training. Again no problem to go wherever. All have regional gigs in my area plus I have family in Western Pa and Ohio.
