Keith,
My instructors teach the same thing, though it is more like, "use your fives". It does work, or in my case as a complete newbie, most of the time

Wine Taster:
Thanks. The driving, for one hour mind you, this past week, went "fine" according to my instructor; I on the other hand did not feel all that comfortable with my performance. First time out was a bit overwhelming, we are expected to know how to downshift even though NO training had been offered prior to.
I relate the training approach at this, 'ahem', school to be like tossed into a pool by your father and told to swim before you hit the water!
The past week, #6, went pretty well, test on Friday was postponed for my class until the 30th, we weren't ready... big surprise.
Side-note: I can't wait until I get my CDL and certificate and get to a company for training, I feel I am going to need that dramatically!!

Week Five went really well with double clutching exercises up and down a hill, pre-trip/drop-n-hook/air brake tests everyday, static course practice, etc. I was told I would be heading out on the road next week (Week Six), and interjecting the alley dock into the static course.
One of my instructors indicated that myself and two other students are expected to test out with the DMV next Friday, May 16th. That's great!! Except we still haven't hit the road or done any alley dock practice. I did however take it upon myself to do an alley dock at the end of the day before I put the truck away for the weekend, I nailed it, no instruction, no help! Let's see how it goes next week (#6).

Pre-Trip Exam - Engine Hood Closed?!
Bill,
Here in CT the engine compartment is inspected with the hood open. All items need to be mentioned, pointed to, grabbed, shook, what-have-you so that the inspector knows what you talking about.
I'm fast approaching my test day in a week or two I'd guess. And like you mentioned, CT DMV Inspector comes to the school to proctor the entire practical exam and road test.
I hope this helps.

TruckingTruth is getting a new layout
Brett,
It looks good on my iPhone 5S, prefect font size, the layout is great. I also use it on my Microsoft Surface 2 tablet, and there it is great too. I don't use a laptop.

Excellent post... he really did nail it!! If anyone should have a proper outlook toward work/job/career and life in general it is Mike Rowe. He has seen the depths at which some people go to do a job and to do a "dirty job" well. With a smile!
Thanks for sharing this Tarren!

Beginning new career with PTL. (A diary)
I read it and I can say that I am impressed that you didn't focus your displeasure elsewhere, like toward other drivers on the road. It is important to "vent", and I think this forum is a good place to do so, when done with grace, which you did!
Stay cool man!

Awsome idea
What an AWESOME idea! Thanks for sharing that.
I had seen the use of dry-erase markers on laminated atlas' but not the windshield.
I'll be sure to remember this one!
