According to the Commercial Driver's Manual for PA on page 1-6, all I need to study to take the test for just the CDL Class A permitb> are the following sections: Sec. 2 - Driving Safely Sec. 3 - Transporting Cargo Safely Sec. 6 - Combination Vehicles Sec. 5 - Air Brakes (if equipped) Translating that to the High Road, that would mean I wouldn't have to focus on Rules & Regs, Pre-Trip Inspection , Driving Exam etc... Yeah, I know it would be beneficial to go through that material, and I already have gone through a lot of it, I just want to confirm what I need to focus on w/ the High Road to get my permit this Friday. I'll grab my endorsements later while still in school. I'm trying to just concentrate on what I need JUST for my permit test. I think it's pretty much self-explanatory, just wanna be sure.

Pre-trip Inspection:

A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.

Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Combination Vehicle:

A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

I will be taking the AL permit test this week. I am going to try to get all my endorsements at one time so I show up to school on Monday with everything in hand.
