Hello Maurice welcome to truckingtruths. You have come to right spot. Brett has built a plethora of I formation here in this sight on the who what and where of the trucking industy. Here are few links to help get started.

I would start here with Truck Driver's Career Guide and then follow to Company-Sponsored Training and Truck Driving Schools with those three links you should find most of the answears you seek.

Frustrated isn't the word for this new truck driver!!!!

Ooooohhh!! One other thought I forgot. Think of all the brownie points you are earning now. I would bet dollars to doughnuts once you talk to your dispatcher about the whole situation. He will probably say to himself. Man I am going to owe this guy big.

I would have to agree here with what the other haves said. It is likely that the bean counters didn't know how long you would spend on said bus rides, or that even possibly that given the option they assumed you would want to go home. We all know what happens when we assume..... right.... I would also say get in touch with your dispatch and see of they can get you some of that cab money back.

I know you want to be home with the family for christmas, it is where I would most likely want to be given your situation. I think fate has given you that silver lining here. As I am pretty sure you are on your way via the dog. I would say talk with your wife and let Christmas come a little early this year. You have been given the sure thing of being there at least one day take advantage of that. Let the kids open one or even all the presents. I am sure they will not mind at all.. lol.

Take em as you will but just my thoughts and hopefully they will help spin a positive out of this sotuation.

The cabover truck

picture of old school cabover truck

This was always my personal favorite. I got the pleasure of working on and driving quiet a few of them when I was turn wrenches. The really nifty part was that the steps folded out when you opened the door. Also btw if any of you seasoned drivers were ever broken down in a freightshaker in Jackson mississippi we probably crossed paths if your truck was at empire truck sales.

How much is TOO much info?

As far as I was told from prime. Was that December and January are booked. February would be the earliest. I didn't care to much as that gives me time to get everything in order.

How long ago were you told this? I had spoken with Grace about 2 weeks ago and she was going looking into the 2nd or 3rd weeks of January? I have not gotten a confirmation on which yet.

Hey valk, I feel your struggle man, I to have had a rather hard time speaking with my recuiter there at prime as well. I chalk it up to mostly the holiday season. I also think that they probably also have a great deal on their plates and can sometimes forget to respond and then you add both of those together and well. It happens. So more then likely he is not blowing you off just super busy.

I also know how anxious you are. I myself have been approved and gotten an invite to orientation, but no start date yet.... I know my recuiter Grace is working as hard as she can to get me there just it seems like it is taking forever lol.... keep at it and hopefully you will find out soon heak we may even end up in the same class you never know.

Are trucking companies switching to automatic transmissions?

Yea that's what I'm hearing at school too about companies going automatic. One of the guys told me he trained on a auto cause PAM uses autos but had no restrictions on his cdl. I have also heard of companies going to auto sticks and from what I heard that is a transmission that allows you to choose between manual or auto. Now that would be pretty cool.

Funny you to mention this the first gen. Auto shifts and ultra shifts had this very option. I have not seen the newer Trans and can only speak of the earlier stuff but they were not all that bad.

A month of trucking with Daniel B.

I hope you keep this thread up. I have enjoyed the read a great deal. I have been lurking here since it started but if David wants to start one I will read it as well lol.

Sean I would not think you woukd have to be to much of a mechanic to to succeed in this industry. Aside from lights fluids and maybe the occasinal mud flap you would be golden. I say this as a former truck technician and not a driver yet.
