I have an interesting question to ask. What can one do to a resume once you have a CDL. I have non commercial driving experience but I don't know how to build a resume once I have my CDL. any thoughts?

Todd, the answer to that used to be "take it to a scale house and ask them to inspect it." That's been done many, many times. But unfortunately today it's not that simple. You have the CSA Program (Compliance, Safety, and Accountability) which holds both the companies and the drivers responsible for keeping the vehicle in safe operating condition. So taking it for an inspection could lead to a bunch of tickets, but would also hurt your CSA score. So you really don't want to be the one driving it when it gets a bunch of tickets.

To be honest, I'm not sure what you could do at this point other than refuse to drive it.

I had a feeling that this would be one of the replies I would get so I have already take action on it. I have pointed this stuff out to my supervisor and have written it up in a company inspection report so they know.

Yes you are right I do not want to get a bunch of tickets and I have said that I will refuse to drive this vehicle on the road so it is up to them the next time my truck has to go in for service. As always I do appreciate the time and effort that goes into the answers I get in this forum.

I would say that someone on that truck is expecting a cut too. My neighbor used to work for an armored car company and a guard staying with the vehicle inside is SOP throughout the industry.

I think I saw soothing similar to what I am thinking about a couple of months ago but I would like to get some input on this for my own education and potential safety later on. I know of a box truck where I work that I use when my truck is in for servicing( oil change, tires etc.) that has serious issues such as a bald tire on the rear axle for one. Other then refusing to drive an unsafe vehicle , writing it up which I have done is there anything I can do to get the point across.

I know the truck is due for inspection this month and I heard that you can get a complete inspection on a truck with minimal risk to your license, is this true?

The yard this truck in in is less then 10 miles from an inspection station and I am reasonably sure the truck will get to it if the weather is dry.

Trust me when I say my supervisor knows my opinions on the truck and that I will refuse to take an unsafe vehicle on the road. I just worry that he will get someone else to do it and I don't want that on my conscience if I can help it.

Understood, fortunately the vehicle I drive weighs right near the 26k limit and can be rented at any place that deals with trucks. I have been asked for a drivers log when the truck is in for inspection. I think I got the CHP officer when he was having a bad day because he was being picky on a truck that was less then 2 years old at the time. This is becoming an unexpectedly interesting thread which was not my intention. I am getting more and more useful stuff and more question for anoter thread when I formulate how to ask the question right.

Thanks for the good info so far. The branch of the company I work for currently was not even aware that I needed to keep a drivers log until I told them. Fortunately I found out from another driver from another branch about it before I was pulled in to have my box truck inspected and they asked to see my logbook. Apparently my company has some learning to do about the regulations and I am glad I got into paper logs before I got busted. Saved me from a lot of potential FUBARS when I hopefully get my commercial license. Seams I I got into CYA territory by sear luck.

I am looking for a good elogs app that I can use for myself. The company I work for is not helpful in keeping up on the need for logs I am doing this for my own protection as I want to keep my license clean for when I get a commercial license. Any ideas for me?

You'd be better off as an "MMA Expert". Not to diminish TKD - but, in a real life critical defense situation - unless you're trained specifically to handle them - getting your "mind in gear" - takes longer than you think.

I keep police-grade pepper spray in my vehicles - and usually one on my person (depending on situation). There's many instances where you just can't justify putting a shot into someone. Besides - with the stuff I carry - it's WAY MORE FUN to watch someone after they've got a face-full of it, than to have to go through all the BS that goes along with even a "justified shoot".

I can attest to the fun of watching someone squirm as a result of pepper spray. I did a stint in security and we had a bowling alley as a client and some snotty teens got sprayed one night. After the police and security got out of the public eye they said it was a good call and we all had a good laugh.

Finally got the gumption up to get the ball rolling on getting my CDL. helps that I have good people in my corner and being able to see my motivation clearly.
