Daniel B. Bike Rides

Bump. Has anyone else been bringing their bike along? I know it's winter for most of you, but I'm in Florida so that doesn't compute.

My partner is interested in biking during free time. Would it be a bad idea to strap two bikes back there? Bungies AND chains, mind you. Thanks for the info, Daniel B.

I did that once and if you stack them (so that one is sticking out farther than the other) you'll break the crankarm and pedal off when you make your first turn. They have to be mounted vertically so as not to protrude. Maybe drill some hooks in up top to mount the second one higher? We just carried one inside the cab and one on the back since it was a temporary situation.

Getting exercise as a truck driver

Freightliner, Peterbuilt, and Kenworths are all super easy to strap a bicycle on the back of, Internationals take a bit more work. All you need are a couple of bungee cords and a U-lock. I was able to ride for an hour a day on average while working for May trucking, exploring countless national forests and small towns. Also from a practical standpoint they are really useful, it opened up a world of better restaurants and stores. Just don't get too nice of a bike, mine really got banged up. Also be super careful when coupling since I made a bike sandwich once haha.

Vegan Trucker.

I find that most vegetarians are pretty carefree and accepting of whether people eat meat or not, and most meat eaters are defensive and like to poke fun at vegans and vegetarians, in one way or another. To me, that speaks for itself. I do it for environmental and moral reasons. Do you know how much fresh water it took to produce that 1/4 pounder? 2 months worth of showers. Longer if you are a trucker LOL. Ask yourself, would hold your dog down and slaughter it with a knife? Why then does that make it okay to do it to a goat or cow? Global warming is another sensitive subject that also has to do with meat production. Transportation is 14% of the problem, meat production is 18%.

Having trouble with pre hires and speeding tickets.

Look into May trucking, I got a pre hire from them, even though I got a 34/15 in a school zone ticket in Nov 2012, also had a 9 over in May 2012 and misdemeanor poss of marijuana in October 2013 and two other minor misdemenors in 2011. Also KKW wants me. EVERY company is different. I'm curious about Western express as well.

Tucson AZ based companies (DSW, who else is good?) Heads up on free school.

Hey, I'm just about to start school on Monday at Southwest here in Tucson, and was hoping someone could give me a couple leads on good companies with terminals in Tucson (I'll drive to Phoenix and back every week if I have to I guess). Looking for a 11 western regional position, home every weekend kind of deal. I already know of eagle, DSW, reynolds logistics... Right now May trucking has what I want, but they are in Phoenix, and DSW is in Tucson, but I don't think they could get me home every weekend (I could be wrong).

Pima county one-stop career center is paying for my school (worth around 4,500) so for all you guys looking to get free school without paying it back in bondage to a company, come to Tucson :) It was a lot of paperwork and took a couple months, but obviously worth it.

O yea and nice to meet all you guys, i've been reading for a month or so now, I especially like Daniel b in Sacramento's bike blog, I'm gonna do that as well.
