Stupid Question? Hope Not...

Ever since I was little and I wanted to become a truck driver, I have seen weigh stations and I knew they conducted business such as; measuring the legal weight of trucks, checking your papers, and stuff like that. My question is, what happens when stuff goes wrong?

What is the procedure when your truck is overweight? Do you just get something like a write-up or do you have to go back to the seller? Hope that is not a stupid question but out of all the information I've read about trucking, I haven't actually read very much about what actually HAPPENS when things go wrong. Specifically at weight stations.

Also, if anyone has any stories about things gone wrong at a weigh station, I'd love to hear it.

Sorry, I just don't know much about what goes on at these places. I just see them sitting there on the side of the highway and as a potential new driver, I'm curious.

Women friendly companys

I'm in school at this time and have been listening to one of my lady instructors she has talked about women friendly company's Could you please explain more on this ? Anyone with this information please discuss more on these company's and who they are 😀

I would like to know the answer to this one myself. I talked to one instructor that said May Trucking company was women friendly and had plenty of female trainers. Then again, he also said that May paid him to recruit new students. He also changed the subject and went kind of silent when I tied to ask him more detailed questions about it. I don't think I trust him to much and am looking into other companies.

Bewildered Part 2

There is a link on the home page of truckingtruth.com, quality trucking.com., CDL training provided."

Hugh? The homepage of truckingtruth.com only shows an introduction to this site with a menu of links to this site's other pages. I do not see a link called quality trucking.com. Which link are you referring to?

30 Years Young with No Kids or Wife: Can I Make A Decent Living?

double-quotes-start.png

Sorry, I meant: I am new here. Can anyone tell me what re-powers are?

double-quotes-end.png

for the most part its when a driver screwed up and cannot finish getting the load to the final or they break down and cannot complete the load. They send another driver to get the trailer to destination on time.

Interesting. Yes, that does sound like it would be very short miles indeed.

Like Eckoh, I'm in my first year of driving. With similar results in regards to pay (14k to his 14.7k) and it comes from being willing to take the not-so-fun loads. Show them you are a team player and they will start giving you some really nice runs.

Always be willing to help out. As an example, I always take re-powers. Even if they are short miles. You build goodwill.

I am new here. Can anyone tell me what re-powers are?

First day of school

Only one other person in your class? Wow, you are so lucky! You will get lots of hands on training. What state are you in and what school are you attending, if you don't mind my asking?

Sleep Schedule

Hello Lady Lanes, I drove truck for 20 years, you will get into your own routine out there and yes there will be times when your log book says your on the sleeper line however no one told your body that lol, there will be times when your sleep pattern will be interrupted. The important thing to remember is that you will have to learn how to adjust to things like daylight saving time, this always messed with me. Your loads don't always go smooth either therefore you may be running late or may have had a break down, these are all things that will interrupt your sleep schedule. The truth is when I was driving I always got my rest but at all different times of the day and night. There is no set schedules in trucking just to be honest with you. However it is a wonderful career choice and if you love traveling then you will most likely love it. For me learning to adjust was a small price to pay for a joyous life changing experience. Good luck and I hope you decide to go for it :)

Thank you for your reply, Bridgette A. I guess I can get used to an irregular sleep schedule sometimes, just as long as I'm not rolling around sleep deprived. That sounds like it could be dangerous!

Sleep Schedule

Can anyone tell me about their personal experience with this ? Anyone? Anyone? I know that it is hard to get a good night's sleep all the time but I am just curious about other ladies' personal experiences with sleeping at night/day or a variation of the two.

Can Teams Run Local?

Is it possible for team drivers to drive locally with nightly home time? Does anyone have personal experience with this or know someone who does?

Sleep Schedule

I have been thinking about a trucking career for years but the only thing that is making me hesitate to get started is the sleep schedule or the lack thereof. What is the sleep schedule like for a driver and will I be tired all the time? I hate the feeling of being constantly fatigued.
