Traveling with a dog?

I agree with Brett. If you already had a dog you didn't want to part with that would be different, but getting one for the road could be much more of a pain than you'd think.

Especially if it doesn't work out.

Truck Drivers In Cold Weather

double-quotes-start.png

I'm a tractor supply kinda guy. Schmidt is an awesome brand....Just like carhartt, but a little cheaper.

double-quotes-end.png

I agree 100%.....I love their stuff. In fact I compared some of Carhart's stuff with C.E. Schmidt's stuff side by side at Tractor Supply and Schmidt's clothing had heavier stitching and more insulation for less money. Now everyone already knows Carhart is awesome and I use plenty of their stuff too. But not many people know how good C.E. Schmidt is.......great stuff.

Spiffy! I'll see if the Tractor Supply here actually carries stuff for cold weather. At this point, I don't think I even own a coat.

Thoughts On A Female Driver?

double-quotes-start.png

Ok guys. No laughing here. Thoughts on a female driver??

double-quotes-end.png

Anything a man can do, a woman can do more organized. I think that's the saying.

Dude, you have NOT seen my house. My husband's house was immaculate before I got involved.

I've been told there's basically no issues with being a female driver, beyond the usual issues you have anyway.

Words of Advice

If a truckers mouth is moving he's lying don't show your hooters

LOL. No worries on that. There is a very specific list of people I'm allowed to show my hooters to, and I'm pretty certain none of those people (other than my husband) will be asking. rofl-1.gif

Don't get a truck wash then park next to a bull hauler

HELL make sure and check around u at least ten spaces to make sure one didn't sneak up next to u at the truck stop!!

Man it took me ten minutes to figure out that the smell wasn't me!! Haha embarrassed.gif

Teehee! Someone brought a dog up to church last night. He kept farting and the lady next to him kept checking her baby's diaper.

If it takes you that long to figure out that the smell wasn't you, might I suggest you shower more often?

Are we being reasonable about pay for 1st year driving?

Most of what Brett said applies to the rest of life as well, and is the reason I can get away with as much as I do. rofl-3.gif

Truck Drivers In Cold Weather

Errol, you mean people don't immediately freeze to death when the outside temp hits 32? Whodathunkit!

I flat out don't like being cold. My husband jokes that I liked watching ICT and Deadliest Catch because they were my version of a horror movie. Cold weather is one area that I will probably over-prepare a bit, just for my own peace of mind.

This is the candle lantern I was talking about: http://smile.amazon.com/UCO-Candlelier-Deluxe-Candle-Lantern/dp/B00A76FNYA/ref=pd_sim_468_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=0VP8DE3ZAAMSR6RSBDQH

Says it can warm a small tent to snow cave, and you can sit a mug on top to warm up water. Takes a while to boil (first review says 52 minutes), but better than nothing!

You need a good pair of insulated boots, good gloves, and the best part is a good Carhartt jacket. My Carhartt jacket is rated to -40 degrees. That is the best coat I have ever had and it will last for years.

I looked at the Carhartt coats on Amazon. I'll have to go look at them in a store to size them, especially since they don't seem to make the women's designs for really cold weather! Punks. Ah well, won't be the first time I wear men's clothing. At least I'll know the sleeves will be long enough.

I think I'll be getting one of these: http://smile.amazon.com/Ergodyne-N-Ferno-6826-Balaclava-2-Peice/dp/B0091CC1MI/ref=pd_sim_469_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1Q4VGZ63MRN24YPG6YWN&dpID=41bnmTtr7tL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR95%2C160_

I'll use it for riding my motorcycle when at home if nothing else.

Once I have my own truck, I might wander off with a pair of Dad's insulated FRC coveralls. Those suckers are WARM.

Usually you'll be "rescued" within a few hours.

Lol. I'd actually already planned to bring a candle lantern once I'm on my own. They can heat up small areas pretty well and last a while.

Truck Drivers In Cold Weather

I live in Texas. I lived out of it for a whole 5 months in the midst of a very mild Jersey winter and have been skiing multiple times when I was much younger. That's the extent of my cold weather experience. When I looked at going to colleges, I looked at UW. One of my mother's arguments was that I'd freeze to death, and I told her I'm sure I'd learn to wear a coat after the first bout or 2 of hypothermia. I figure I'll probably be better off buying a coat once I get somewhere that has cold weather because unless I go buy a Carhartt coat, nobody down here actually carries proper working cold weather gear.

I have no idea what to do in cold weather. I have no idea what kind of clothes you need or what kind of precautions might be necessary.

So, what do I need to keep from freezing my tooshie off?
