Pre-trip inspections

Jerry, the way I did things was top to bottom, left to right. anything that can be seen or touched should be mentioned and tell what they do with emphasis on (1) slack adjusters, (2) air break system, (3) emergency equipment (4) and coupling system.

USA truck driver (video)

I would think some where sooner then the bridge, there should have been been a sign saying no trucks.

Should I plow snow or go OTR?

ok, so I talked to the company that I'm looking to go with and was told that as long as I can still do the silks need to pass the driving test and the backing test I wouldn't have to take a refresher course. The company that I would be plowing snow for is also an excavating company and I will from time to time be driving an18 wheeler around for them hauling equipment. Brett I'm around the Garrett county Maryland area and we really don't have a shortage of snow here. if that becomes an issue I would then have to move on.

Should I plow snow or go OTR?

I got a job offer to plow snow for the winter at 20 bucks an Hr., 6 days a week and 10 Hrs. day. Its not what I went to school to do but it means I can be home every day with the family and not be hualing 80,000 pounds of weight behind me while the snow is flying and Im fresh out of school. After winter then, I could get on with a company going over the road doing what I rally want to do which is hualing freight. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

CDL licensing

Hi Lvis, I am just finishing up classes at Garrett Community College in Grantsville Md. using the W.I.A program and all has went well. I am working during the week and going to class on the weekend. one of the things I found out at least about West Virginia is the W.I.A. program has certain schools that you can attend. I don't think they will use a company sponsored school. It does take a while to get the money and they do give you a list of schools to choose from. On my list there were no company sponsored schools. They were all private. The license you get is good for all states as long as you are 21 or older. There is a school in Clarksburg Wv. that will put you through in four weeks but it is through the week and if you live more then 63 miles away they will give you a room for the week as long as you are attending school. its called Pittsburgh aeronauticle institude if you are interested. Good Luck

Britton R. it's exactly right about the High Road Training. I went through the book a couple of times to but did my real studying with the High Road training program. I feel that I learned much more with the program and it made it much easier to learn. I passed my test the first time around too. Good luck to you and I hope you do well.

Driving record

Bball im.not a recruter but just last week I spoke with one and yes, he did tell me that one dui that long ago can be worked around. when I told him I had two, that was the breaking point. it is just in my opinion political B.S. since it was that long ago. Yes at that stage of my life I thought I was indestructible but after the second dui I quit drinking. not to say that I don't like a Ice cold beer once in a great while but I limit it to 2 at the most.

2 Mental Mistakes That Cost Drivers Their Sanity…And Maybe More

That's a great article Brett and a good post from guy jax. The way I like to do things and what I tell my wife all the time is not to worry about things until it's time to worry. In doing this, it keeps my mind clear and let's me focus on the task at hand rather than clouding my mind with things I probably can't change any way. although I'm not a trucker yet,I use this tactic in class when I mess some thing up on the course. I just think to myself I know how to do this but I keep in mind I'm still learning and I will get it the next time around. Then I move on and try to focus on the next task that I need to do. That is pretty much the way I handle my every day life as well.
