Help with switching company.....

I am just getting back into trucking myself. Back then I always informed them that I would be leaving when I knew something and some even after a year or so would call to check in on me and ask if I would be interested in coming back. It's always nice to not burn a bridge, but somethings it happens. When I left Prime I'm sure they were not happy with me, but have never had a company(dispatcher) do what they did to me and then sending me a survey and the last question being along the lines of what could we do to get you to reconsider or something like that, sure I could have talked with the upper management and thats why I have always disliked the bigger company's, but anyway always give the 2 week notice and give them 2 weeks, I don't know what you mean by treating the driver poorly, but that has not happened to me when I gave one. Sure, I was going to be leaving in two weeks and some didn't run me as hard and some kept running me hard up until that point.

Can any Newbies tell me if this is your experience?

I would ask about layover and detention time pay. Also possibly asking for a new dispatcher, but right now is the slow time for flat bed, how much OTR experience do you have? and when I wasn't happy anymore I would always talk to other drivers about how they liked who they were working for and what the perks were. You could also try ATS.

How the older engines compare to the new ISX and DD series engines

I never got to play with one either, the best engine I think in my time was the Detroit 60 series. This other company I'm trying to get on with still runs pete's(TMC) with cats and some of the newer trucks I believe have the pacaar engines in them but not sure.

In Cab cameras on the driver

A lot of mixed views on this one and wasn't going to say anything but ran out of popcorn, yes the privacy issue was discussed, companies being sued and put out of business, was covered and for the Kimball(Flexcell) driver I know he probably would have welcomed having a camera in his truck. His wife died because she was driving in a manner that caused the accident. So while the talk has been all about my privacy or this or that. The husband of the wife that was killed, for three years took the Kimball driver to court over and over again not to sue Kimball, but to sue him and permanently end his driving career and it was the Judge who put a stop to it and informed him that the driver should sue him for harassment. You can take this for whats its worth, but if all one is concerned about is privacy and you have an accident and nothing to back up your side of the story, the end result shouldn't be a shocker.

Cb radios and box truck drivers

Absolutely not, lol. Sure why wouldn't we talk to someone else on the cb. I've talked talked with some of the pickups hauling stuff and even a pickup truck where the driver was using a little hand held radio.

Getting hazmat endorsement

Tomorrow I will be retaking some of the written tests to transfer my CDL to my home state and have been wondering about a couple of things. The DMV is closed today and after reading a little about it was wondering how this works. If i'm correct I will transfer my licence to my home state, take the hazmat test, and other tests, then I have to wait around four weeks and get finger printed and pay $86.50. I do have a TWIC card and from what i'm reading it all sounds like I'm applying for another TWIC card or I have just gotten confused some where?

When not on the clock!!

I don't know if they offer the service anymore, but some truck stops had people who were willing to shuttle you around town.I remember one out west who went by shuttle bug, you just had to give her a yell over the cb. I hear ya on the pictures though, it wouldn't be the same as stopping to enjoy it but a couple of dash cams could catch all the scenery as well.

TMC

My biggest question is when your out with a trainer for five weeks, I was looking at their site and they don't offer much for teams. So I was wondering if they run you and trainer as team or basically seeing how you would perform solo. You do all driving, and trainer gives pointers and helps with load securement and tarping basically so when you do go solo you are well prepared.
