You might be a trucker if......

You might be a trucker if you turn on your 4 ways flashers in your personal vehicle to back out of your driveway.

Shaffer

Any Shaffer drivers on here. Looking for any info on average miles and Deliver times. Is there a lot of overnight delivery times. Are there a lot of multi stop loads. That kind of stuff. Hoping to get some info from current drivers on here. I'm not a Facebook guy or any of that social stuff so this is my best hope.

Wind

I saw a driver posted about a blow over in the wind. This is one thing that after a year still freaks me out. That nasty wind. So my question to those with more experience is do you have a general rule of thumb you use when deciding if it's safe to keep going or time to be safe and shut down. Now I know there are a lot of variables in this like loaded or empty and what direction your going in comparison to the wind so I'm not looking for a concrete answer . I have talked to a couple guys who say when it hits 25 to 35 mph they shut down but then I see other guys in those conditions that don't even seem to slow down. Just curious your thoughts.

Lyght's Journey To Become A Truck Driver

That first sentence should read when I was in training not trucking.

Lyght's Journey To Become A Truck Driver

Lyght it gets better. I to really questioned if I made the right choice getting in to trucking when I was in trucking. Being with my trainer was a bit challenging and sleep was difficult in his truck. He didn't close the curtains either so I was always trying to sleep in light. I can tell you once you are out on your own things get better. The first few months solo were a bit stressful but I'm 11 months solo now and loving it. Got my truck set up the way I like it and have gotten a good routine down that works for me. Don't throw in the towel yet. I had a few times when I thought about walking away from it early on and I am so happy I stuck it out. I would have regreted it for ever if I would have quit. Good luck to you and your wife.

What are your favorite gadgets on the road?

I see several people mentioned a crockpot which is an item I have often thought about but worry about it bouncing around while I'm driving. I don't want to wind up with a mess. My gadget of choice has to be my iPad on Verizon network and of course tv and DVD player and microwave. I only allow myself one time a week to eat out so I don't spend to much money so the microwave is a must have

Game: Vent and Brag About Life On the Road

A little bit but not to bad. I have a new truck and I do a real thorough pretrip so I really didn't think he would find anything. I thought I was just getting a paperwork inspection and then he said to pull around to the inspection bay. I said oh I get the hole enchilada today? He said yeah I'm falling asleep sitting here so I better do something. I laughed and said well we certainly don't want you sleeping. All in all a pretty nice guy.
