Can someone tell me the pros and cons of being a flatbed driver?

I've heard of people flipping trucks taking curves too fast and just getting another truck so I have no idea at this point but that would seem like something one would get let go for? Hopefully nothing serious happened.

My codriver has seen that happen. Before coming to WST he was an experienced flatbed driver/trainer.

4 day with out a shower

I was removed from my first trainers truck for reasons they said were serious(signing me in as the driver but driving himself) but then I found him training someone else 4 days later....

But I was not letting him train anyone else.

Does anobody know of someone ever forgetting to strap his load and just taking off?

"Did you turn the oven off?" feeling some people get. If you tend to worry overmuch, that could be a real issue.

Hope this helps.

Great looking cops... ;) OR This happened...

A cop blocked a road to help me back into a street when I couldn't find where to enter at my stop. I went up to a group of them that where just talking about a break up they just did and asked for assistance. He told me to hurry up before I even started but it was nice of him to help lol

Lane Control

About those speakers going off. My first trainer might as well have been composing music. Every time his turn came up, those speakers were practically never off.

Good thing I ended up having no problems going to sleep on a moving vehicle else they could have been the tipping point into madness lol

Maybe it's just a coincidence. Time will tell. Does anyone else notice this or is it just me?

Bravo, I think it's a coincidence. Lane control is always important, so I dont think you can take three weeks of observation and start blaming the lack of it on certain companies. One of the things you're going to realize is that there are a lot of new drivers out there with you. Most of them are still developing their skills, some of them are just grateful they made it through their day without tearing something up again.

Just because you see trucks "all over the place" doesn't mean the company doesn't care about lane control. It usually means you've got a distracted driver, on his phone, checking how many likes he has on his latest facebook post, or maybe trying to make a sandwich while he's at the wheel.

Since you've noticed the Swift drivers are doing a good job if it, then we might just assume that the two way cameras in their trucks are causing their drivers to be hyper alert and making better drivers out of them. Now that's an idea to ponder!

4 day with out a shower

I did 3 days once and felt horrible. Yeah, not taking a shower after unloading a trailer is very uncomfortable. I try to make sure I shower after every unload now. I failed once already...

Trainers.... well, the third one was great on my end.

Does one have to be a citizen or permannent resident to get a cdl?

I'm not a PR or citizen and got my lic and a job. I have a work permit but I've been here for a very long time.

My understanding after asking here and around is that I'm just not allowed to pull hazmat.

Hurt knee, now what?

So now my primary doctor is saying he told me to take care of it for a week and then go back to work if it doesn't hurt....

I'm flabbergasted right now. I remember he specifically told me a month and to baby it, there is NO question. He never mentioned even the word week or going back to work after that.

I asked if he can schedule an MRI for me but the lady on the front desk is telling me I need to go through workers comp first because of insurance reasons.

I'll be talking to someone else at my job about my issues again tomorrow.

Hurt knee, now what?

I don't know, I was walking around inspecting my truck when I felt a pain in my knee and attempted to squat down to figure out where it was exactly. I got 1/4 to 1/2 way through and it hurt enough that I had to use my left leg to get back up.

After I got in my truck, I bent and extended it a bit and heard loud pops. I tried to get up from a sitting position but I couldn't so I started using only my left leg to bent down a bit and haven't used my right knee since.

After my doctor told me to baby it, I've made a much stronger effort not to use it under force. He told me specifically not to squat but that I could walk around. The next doctor asked me to squat so I swifted as much weight as I could to my left leg and got about 1/4 down and told her I feel a pop around there, then got back up. I wasn't about to try going all the way down with weight on it when my primary doctor specifically told me not to squat.

Thought it was from unloading trailers? How did you hurt your knee doing a post trip?
