Guidance Q&A

Question 1: Must an operator of a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) (as defined in §383.5), who holds a CDL, notify his/her current employer of a conviction for violating a State or local (non-parking) traffic law in any type of vehicle, as required by §383.31(b), even though the conviction is under appeal?

Guidance: Yes. The taking of an appeal does not vacate or annul the conviction, nor does it stay the notification requirements of §383.31. The driver must notify his/her employer within 30 days of the date of conviction.

Florida Panhandle Technical College CDL Program

I was going to do a review of the school after I graduated in 2013 but never got around to it. Pay attention in class the teachers will emphasize material you may see later. Also check out some of the skinny ass roads in and around Chipley. You will be driving them all. I had over 1300 miles logged by the time I was done. You will see several recruiters from the biggies and some of the local companies will send someone out. Best of luck...

Trucks & Personal Protection.

Welcome Marine, thanks for your service. I am a definite 2nd. Amendment supporter and believe we should be able to carry pretty much any way we want. Liability to be sued and insurance costs if you don't restrict firearms are probably the major drivers on firearm restrictions. Have you ever wondered why our troops (I also served) are not allowed to carry on base/post? Many shippers also restrict firearms. on their properties. There are many ways to carry a weapon that is not obviously a weapon. Improvise, adapt, overcome...

That's awesome Bill. Chipley is where I am going to CDL school in August. Going to be commuting to Florida Panhandle Technical College for 8 weeks.

That's where I got my CDL. Went through Aug-Oct it was hot as hell. Drink lots of water and be prepared to sweat your tail off. Say hi to Kevin and Otis for me, if they are still teaching...

Trucking vs Network/System administrator (need some insight)

There are lots of IT folks posting here. I was a network hardware/cabling infrastructure guy for years. I have always liked tech. Trucking can heap a pretty good load of stress on you also. And you are pretty much on your own with that stress. Not trying to steer you one way or another. I went military career to civilian IT career and now trucking in my late 50s. Whatever you choose give it your all...

If you get paid by the day. That pay rate divided by the hours you work is what you make hourly. Is it worth it? Only you can answer that question.
