I'm confused...how can a company afford to advertise like this, if its all on the up and up ??
"and the heart to respect all of the drivers who make us who we are today."
Dollars to donuts I could guess the company based on this phrasing alone.

Since you have lurked around here for so long you will also know that a common post is of someone asking questions that when looked at objectively just amounts to a lot of sweating over nothing. Your question, without wanting to sound insensitive, almost falls into that category. C'mon, you've read all these posts! Quit wasting time, call Swift, get a manual and get your permit and get your butt in a truck! (says me in the friendliest way possible)
What I'm dying to know, at the risk of being nosy, is how the heck are you two empty nesters at 36 & 40? That's moving fast! Just kidding.
Oh and welcome officially to Trucking Truth.

Air brake question. Veteran truckers required
(small correction to Rickepedia, but it was Bill F. who pointed out the non-wisdom of appearing to show up your trainer)

Rick speaks truth here. Denny you need to sharpen your pencil and get cracking about what it's really gonna take, 'cause truckers aren't making "tons of money". But as a rest area worker, I can certainly sympathize with your desire to move up. Set some realistic goals, like losing weight, using your cpap, get honest talk from truckets (like here) and check back in with us here later. You're not in a position right now to hit the road.

This might be what you're talking about, or send you off into the weeds, not sure.

"Often times with a high value load we will park the truck in a fashion that eliminates access to the trailer doors. In a truck stop we will back the truck up so that we just kiss the rubber dock stops of the truck behind us, "
Unfortunately, no guarantee the truck behind you won't leave an hour after you crawl into the bunk.

"Having a cyclist roll up on my right while I'm looking at the red light waiting to make a right turn, and parking under my mirror."
In this situation, if you can't see them, you don't move. Period.
Years ago, in my community, an lady drove her niece and nephew to the bus stop. She was their neighbor and it on her way to work anyway. Unfortunately, the niece's sweater caught in the door and the aunt drove off, dragging that poor girl for a mile or more before a trucker pulled her over. The girl did not survive.
That incident weighs on my mind often. If I am dropping off my kids, I don't move until I see them a distance from the car. I treat pedestrians and cyclists near my semi with the same eye contact and caution.
