What does location have to do with getting hired by a trucking company?

what are they looking for in the extensive background check

Usually they run a "cheap" background before hand. Then they run a more extensive one when you get there.

They will weed people out. The DUI will make it tougher, but not impossible. It also depends on how long ago your conviction was. Companies will differ on this.

Be up front about the DUI. Good luck

Whats it like driving after two years?

Shawn finding smaller companies that have company sponsored schools are few and far between and living near a terminal isn't necessary in order for you to receive hometime.

Your first order of business should be finding out what company driving schools allow students located in your state or area ( all of which can be found on this website). Then look at that list and find decide which company offers you the best opportunities for your lifestyle and career.

All of the larger companies that offer in house training will give you hometime and most have the same 1 day hometime accrued per week policy. Some allow you only 4 days at a time some 5. Some companies are better at getting you home on time then others. Of course most of the time it's not the company but your respective dispatcher or fleet manager that drops the ball.

Your goal right now shouldn't be worrying about hometime right now. Find a company drive for a year or preferably 2 with them and as long as you've been a safe efficient driver doors will open for you in your area.

So are truckers everything they are steriotyped to be like on T.V.? Or are they pretty decent people making a living driving a truck?

double-quotes-end.png

Lololol. We are grumpy, cranky, fat, toothless SOBs with little to no education who live to raise hell on the highways of the USA. 'Murica!!

Spend a little time looking around on this website (created completely by Brett, a former trucker) and you should receive a pretty clear answer to your question.

Sounds like I might survive, dui was 2005, 12 years old, the concern iss the last company i aplied to had 200 applications, And the background doesn't make me the cream of the crop.

This is from CFI's web page. "At a minimum, job candidates must not have any BACs, DUIs, DWIs or license suspensions for moving violations in the past five years. In addition, we reserve the right to judge each applicant on an individual basis regarding preventable accidents, moving violations and employment history."

I've had a dui in the past, is it possible for them to run a background before the bus ride out there, seems it would save somebody the price of a bus ticket, I've been looking around to see if I can pull a background check on myself but no luck so far

Do you have a past? You can safely discuss it here. For the most part, companies that take you for training will hire you. The main things that will get you sent home are failing a drug test, lying on your application, not being able to pass physical or showing up without all the necessary paperwork. Be truthful on your application and with your recruiter. Make sure you can pass a drug test. Bring all the required paperwork. I hope that helps.

Why are fleet OTR trucks often cramped for living space?

I can only suggest be happy for what you got and work like there is no tomorrow to make it better, and I quote" no one is getting out of here alive" I kinda like the 389 petes,

If companies need drivers so badly, one might think the LARGEST on-board living spaces, cab/sleeper configurations, in terms of SHEER volume, available on the market would be offered to drivers. I know there are much larger sleeper units available than what is seen on many fleet tractors.

I have browsed the Kenworth website before and know what the market offers.

Now, here is more of an OTR CAMPER than a "sleeper berth".

Does your company offer on-board living this spacious?

I work at a rest area and just wondering if truckers have any questions for rest area employees? I have a few about truckers, but I do not want to come off as offensive and may ask some later on. I am currently in the process of losing weight so I can pass my dot physical and hope to be trucking myself in a few years. I am 37 now. Is 40 too old to get started in this game?

Lol... 40?? I'm pretty sure several on this site will refer to you as pup.. You've got a long way to go before your ready to sit at home.

What does location have to do with getting hired by a trucking company?

First wqas CR England, Driver Solutions said they would pick me up for Pam, I've found a couple on here, Caledon sounded like a decent place, I just want to make sure when I get out there they don't start weeding the applicants and say, we need to talk about something..... know what i mean

Hello and welcome. Several factors are included here. These include location in relation to their freight lanes, their insurance has to accept your driving record, age etc. Have you had any recent accidents, tickets, dui? All has to be considered. Who have you applied to?

CFI company sponsored training through Truck Dynasty Driving Academy

Are you still driving? The positive people on the "net" says it gets better with expereince, then you run into the ones thinking it's a free lunch ticket, or get rich quick

4-24-17 Day 1: First off there are three people in my class and I am the only one from CFI. The other two are on their own dimes. We all have our permits, so we won't be spending class time going over that. We started out filling out paperwork and watching a video on sexual harrassment. Then the other two had to go do drug tests and physicals. When they came back it was time for lunch. When you go to training through CFI you get $15.00 per day for meals. It's not much, but it can be streatched. The only place to eat near the school is the truck stop across the street. They have a restaurant and convenience store. After lunch there was a video which covered CDL/CMV basics. Much of the stuff you need to know for your permit. The next video was on log books. After each video was an easy quiz, based on the video and discussion. The quiz could be answered while watching the video. The last section was trip planning. We used the Rand McNally road atlas for that. We have to finish that up in the morning. Then it's out to the range. They have late model KWs with 10 speed transmissions. He said we'll start with backing and may go on the road in the afternoon. We will get the opportunity to work with all of the instructors. They want us to learn quickly and they will help us as much as we may need. Also, they gave us a copy of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. As far as pre trip goes, they will give us a sheet to study and it's up to us to learn it. They will help us as much as we need. We just have to ask. That's all for day one. Day 2 starts at 07:00. I'll get picked up at around 06:45.
