Transfer your class A CDL to Illinois?

Thanks for the info, I appreciate the responses. I hope Maverick will allow me to test out with a truck if necessary. I went to get my permit last week and saw that there was a company at the DMV that rents trucks to use to test out, so hopefully that would be an option too. It looked like they had every kind of truck you might need. I don't mind paying for it. I don't even really mind taking the test twice if I get the job, but do you think Maverick might just say no because Illinois is difficult when it comes to this?

Transfer your class A CDL to Illinois?

Has anyone been able to transfer an out of state CDL to Illinois without retaking the driving test? Maverick transportation is ready to put me through their training program but I am being told by Illinois that when I come back from Arkansas to transfer my license to Illinois I will have to retake the written and driving/skills test in Illinois just to transfer my license. Maverick said that they were told that I would have to retest the written portion, but the driving portion could be waived as long as I'm getting the same class license with the same endorsements. Someone obviously has the wrong information, so I'm just wondering if anyone else has been through this issue? I'm on hold until we hear back from Illinois on this issue so I'm a little stressed lol....any ideas?

Getting hired with past substance abuse treatment on my medical record?

Does anyone know if I will be able to get a job trucking if almost 4 years ago I went to substance abuse treatment for alcohol and marijuana? Marijuana wasn't really the issue but they added it to my record since I told them I sometimes smoked it when I was signing in for treatment. I would have to answer yes on question 32 of the DOT medical? Does this disqualify me completely from getting a job? I haven't smoked or had a drink since then and have no current problems with it. I have never had a dui or any legal problems with drugs or alcohol, and I have never failed a drug test except while I was in treatment, never for a job or anything. Any advice would be helpful, I have applied with some companies and everything else looks great, I don't want this to be an issue?

Private School Recommendation?

Going out to visit a school, is that something I would need to make an appointment for? Or is just showing up acceptable?

Private School Recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a private CDL school in Illinois near Chicago? There are at least ten that I have found, reviews are pretty similar good and bad, having a hard time seeing the differences....Thanks for your help!

Getting my old Driving Record from another state

Absolutely! I'm sure they will think it's a big thing, it was for a leaving the scene of an accident and an expired license. I'm hoping that since it was so long ago that if I at least tell them exactly what happened that it won't be an issue. Just wanted to make sure I have the details straight first. If I tell them what happened and ballpark the "when" do you think that's alright? As long as I'm up front about what happened, does the exact date matter?

Getting my old Driving Record from another state

Does anyone know how I can get a driving history on myself that goes back...well....forever? I have some things on my driving record but I'm not 100% on all the details like the exact dates, etc. The thing I'm thinking about was around 15 years ago, and in the interest of an accurate full disclosure to a hiring company, I wanted to pull the information first but the state only goes back as far as 7 years. Anyone have any ideas? This was with a regular license by the way, not a CDL. Thanks!!

Drivers license requirements

So I'm thinking about trucking, and I have a question. I live in the city (Chicago) and I use public transportation, I haven't had a regular drivers license in about 7 years. Is that an issue? I've heard about companies that need 5 years of no traffic violations, clearly I have none but it's because I have no license. I could get one, it's not suspended or anything, but will this be a problem trying to land a job? Thanks!
