Student driver

Understood and thanks for the clarity on the subject I will take into mind what you just said. I'm returning to Salt Lake City to either test out or re-evaluate on my training I'm confident on my driving like I can manage but my backing is where I'm having issues . I'm always just letting my trailer get off to either side I'm trying to control the wheel from the top like my trainer told me it's just I haven't done backing very often as I've been out for nearly 3 weeks (Saturday is 3 weeks) and the 9th of July I am needed back

Tony...maintaining a safe speed is totally on you and a good idea. You are not yet experienced, still finding your "sea-legs" with driving, so drive at a speed that you are comfortable with, but also one that makes sense for the road you are on. The example you gave for slowing to 50mph, because you are concerned and think there might be a downgrade? I agree with your trainer on that point. Not safe... Downgrades requiring driver action are almost always well marked, clearly defining what is ahead and many times guidance on how to navigate the descent. Anticipating a downgrade for no tangible reason, responding with a significant drop in speed isn't a good idea, but a habit you need to break. Confidence in your skills will begin to improve with time. In addition trip-plan better so you have a better idea of what to expect during your route.

That's the one thing with my trainer he said first day I got on his truck safety first and now he wants me to floor the pedal and says that we need to go faster and it's certain areas that are narrower that I see and down shift to 9th or when I can't see to much road and think theirs a down hill or down grade I tend to slow it to 9th and usually at 50 mph and he says that I shouldn't be doing that and to upshift and take it in 10th

This above statement is the truest statement in trucking in my opinion. Just as with my topic on here about the safest areas of the country I care to run in. Ultimately anytime, you are the captain of that ship. Only you know if you feel safe doing something. No one else does. ALWAYS take the safer road, whether its in life or in trucking. If you stay in the safe road, you will have a lot less problems out here. As Master Yoda says: "Safe you must be in everything you do".

Student driver

Thanks will consider it I do take the turns in 2nd and my trainers telling me not to but it's just distance and perception I feel if I couldn't get it up to third I'd just take it in second because theirs only so much space

One thing I've had trouble with is getting the seat adjusted for the best clutch control, seriously. If I get it right everything goes great but sometimes it's a rocky ride until that happens and it affects my ability to find the gears as well. I'm getting better at it but I switch between two different but similar Freightliners and of course share the them with several other different sized people. Just some food for thought.

Student driver

So far my trainers been saying I got everything down as far as driving shifting go but I'm having troubles with stopping and starting sometimes I stall out and other times when I'm taking a turn I tend to take it slow and my trainers saying that I can't take it at that speed I usually take it in 2nd but he says I need to be at least 3rd or 4th and I'm 14 days in I'm just not trying to stall out or have the cabin jump by letting off my clutc to fast any advice in this area?

Prime Inc Paid CDL Training Salt Lake Training

I got my physical done in California and when I got here they took us on the very first day to their dot physician and he then goes over everything you get done in ca but prime has a standard of body mass they enforce 39%

I'm just starting myself, with my physical scheduled for a week from today. I was planning on talking to a prime recruiter, and potentially a few others, but I have to ask; does it really need to be a Utah permit? I was going to get mine here in California. If that's the case, I may need to rethink prime and go with something more local.

Prime Inc and sleep apnea

How did the sleep apnea hung work out for you also . By any chance do you know if they want the 600$ in full up front or in payments deducted in payroll

This is nothing more than smoke and mirrors, and a ton of BS. Just another way for Prime to shake down drivers for more money. Imagine how many drivers per day they run through their so called "Orientation mill." That is a lot of $$$$$$$.

Let the drivers sleep when they need,and not keep them up all day and expect them to drive all night. Its that simple!

I have mo problem with this as i am confident that i will pass but if i dont and i need a cpap then i will get it. The number of students that i have seen falling asleep in class and in front of the computers doi.h cbt's is frightening. Know what they ALL have in common?? They're ALL overweight.

Prime inc slc process

I'm on my first day at orientation here at prime in Salt Lake City. We filled another app type of forms out . Also went to retake the dot physical through heir doctor. I already had my dot card in California but coming here and leaving this dot physical the doctor told me he wanted me to do a sleep study. I am overweight but am in process to correct it by diets and working out. Not sure what to expect. Tommrow is said to be talking over our application we filled online and the one we have handed in today.

Good to know brother yeah I wake up really early and get ready I did bring some decent clothing here so I should be good physocal thanks for your advice I'm at Concetra taking another physical

Ahhhh I should see you by the end of the week. I'll be back at the terminal getting ready to go back out.

You will learn all you need. Just remember this is a 3 week job interview, and don't be late for anything. I went into everyday, even now in TNT training, they will not be waiting on me to start the day. If the trainers see you putting in the effort they will help you all they can.

I missed the bridge height sign, I kept my blinker on too long had a few issues not looking far enough down the road on my turns and I stalked coming out of the emergency stop. Thankfully I was not in the middle if traffic.

Overall it has been a great experience. I will call tomorrow and see who they have for TNT, but I'm glad to finally be a primate.

My weight loss my lifestyle changes

How are the meal watching routines going for you any update would be appreciated ?

A few people in the forum have asked me to share my weight loss "secret". First I would like to state that I am not considering it a diet. My opinion the word diet is a four letter word that usually gives you temporary results, then when achieved you go back to the patterns that you revert back to after you achieve them.

The hardest part of any of this has been breaking bad habits. So when I realized this I began taking a half hour or so meditating. Emptying my negative thoughts, perhaps my bad day and relieving the stress that built during that day. I never eat after driving until I have done this. With a clearer mind I find I make heathier choices.

Making healthy choices is extremely difficult on the road. As many of us know exercise is really hard to achieve when your driving down the road. What makes it more difficult for me is the fact rarely does my truck ever stop. Employing a co driver has been great finically for me but imagine never stopping more than 3 or 4 hours at any given spot. So exercise is a luxury but still needs to be achieved right?

Even though I never joined the driver wellness program at Prime I still have to thank them for the advise they gave us during orientation. Basically it comes down to 15 minutes a day raise your metabolism. Take a brisk walk, run in place while I fuel. Just get that heart rate up and sustain it for 15 minutes. It allows you to increase your metabolism enough to eat any extra calories during the day.

Some days strength exercises are difficult to do I have strength bands and a jump rope in the truck. I do crunches before I go to bed and use bands for strength conditioning as well. Something I do easily in my bunk as Jim is driving down the road. I just lay a yoga mat over my bunk.

So the million dollar question what the heck do I eat? Before I tell you let me state the 3 items I've needed to accomplish my results a real refrigerator w/ a small freezer compartment, microwave and the ever loving George Foreman Grill. I've found personally spending the $600 for the refrigerator that belongs in the truck vital. The freezer is essential for me!

I have tried many different diets during my adult life. Low carb, juicing, weight watchers you name it I probably have tried it. Of course I certainly lost weight with short term success, maintaining the loss always is another story. So this time I've decided I would buy food that I wouldn't mind eating even if I wasn't so called dieting. So after I achieved my "goal" weight I would be able to continue eating the same foods that got me there in the first place.

My first trip with my new objective in mind was an eye opening experience. First thing I decided was to see what the heck I was eating by looking at the labels of everything I wanted to purchase. Staying away from processed foods with exceptions of a few emergency rations I consentrate on 3 departments produce, meat seafood and dairy. Of course my first trip I over purchased and walked out with a ton of healthy food unfortunately it hit the trash can.

This was actually a great thing though. It gave me the ability to sample what I liked and didn't like. It's then I decided if I didn't actually like something that was healthy I wouldn't eat it! So I buy items that I like and will continue to eat all my life instead of eating it just because I was on a diet. Here's a list of items I've found I like that helps me with my goals Produce - Keep in mind this will take up most of the room in your refrigerator so buy smart. Buy a ton of zip lock bags to consolidate your purchases. Try to buy fruits that do not require refrigeration. Also ones that have a larger shelf life.

My list- blueberries ( one of the best fruits for your waistline ) apples,oranges, nectarines,grapes, and strawberries. I take the berries and divide them in portion zip locks with a paper towel on the bottom of the bag. This helps with shelf life. Veggies- spinach and kale mix ( same zip lock deal) onion, tomatoes, prepackaged mashed avocado in portion bags, hummus, carrots, and brocolli already cut florets.

Bread- whole grain bread or whole grain English muffins.

Grocery aisle- oatmeal real not instant another post I will tell you how to prepare without having to cook it. Honey, raisins, blackening seasoning, sea salt, pepper, hot sauce, balsamic vinager, olive oil, organic cambell soups, prepackaged brown rice and guilty but emergency staple is these prepackaged Pace/Prego pasta meals.Not the most healthy meals but not really that bad either. Just great in a pinch.

Well it's almost time for my driving shift so I am going to exercise with bands and get ready to be continued later. Please respond if this is helping so it motivates me to finish quicker. Thanks Brian

Congratulations man sounds great keep it up and any advice for me would help went from 310 to 297 in a month. Last month hopin to continue to lose weight I got physical at prime inc for my first day at orientation I'm sill nervous

Love it.

It is amazing how just cutting out processed foods and replacing with FRESH (or frozen) can make a difference! I am down from 340 to 285 and all I've done is cut out processed foods. Sodas and my sugar intake is next...that's gonna be real hard.

Prime Inc Paid CDL Training Salt Lake Training

How does failing primes physical work and they issued you a 3 month permit ?i will be leaving California Sunday to make it to orientation Tuesday in Salt Lake City but I'm nervous about the physical I dropped 13 pounds since my last dot physical which was 2 months ago. I want to make sure how this works at the physical.

So Day 1. As you have seen with most Prime Day 1's no matter the location. We did orientation paperwork, drug screening, and the DOT physical again. This seems a bit redundant. I got my physical 7 days ago, then Prime had me do it again. Kind of a waste of $150 for me. This time though I did not pass the blood pressure. I did have 2 cokes and McDonald's yesterday before I knew I was going to do this all over again. I also have to stop in Sprimo during my PSD to get the sleep study done. So I currently only have a 3 month card, but not sure if that one invalidates my 2 year card my doc gave me. Anyways, after that we had lunch and then spent the afternoon doing computer training modules. I liked how the first module states that you can pass with 80% but the training program wants you to pass with 100%. If you don't get 100% the module will remain for you to redo.

Well that's all for today. I will try and keep this going.
