Can starting companies like swift would take a stale license?

Victor: Another place to try would be the various 3rd party logistics companies like Ryder, Penske, Black Horse etc. I went through company paid training but ended up not staying with the company. So I had a cdl but little recent experience. After a few months with a small local company I was hired by Ryder in something called their Driver Development Program. It was for cdl holders with 0-1 year experience. Spent 6 weeks with a trainer local then went solo.

These are typically local or out and back jobs. You see them advertising on the job sites like indeed. Normally involves a couple of interviews and maybe a test drive just to see where your skills are.

Availability depends upon what accounts in your area need but I was very happy with how it worked out for me.

Do you have to log a road test?

Once I posted that I thought it might be misinterpreted. I do very detailed pre/post and mid trip inspections. Just this week I found a loose exhaust clamp and a burnt out marker light, both since corrected. I was refering to logging into ELDs, waiting for 30 min breaks to expire, planing my day around breaks etc.

Just jump in the truck and go.

Pretrip? Is this done while you are moving? Or not at all?

I see no reason to log. Any road test is going to be well under the 150 air mile rule so no log would be required anyway. Just remember that almost all of the dump trucks, concrete trucks, garbage trucks, construction trucks etc out there are driving without logs. Its normal.

For the last 5 months I have been working for a company that primarily operates under the 150 mile rule. It's amazing how quickly I stopped worrying about logging. Just jump in the truck and go.

Today’s non-DOT load securement exercise.

Stationary picture but she looked this way the whole time riding. Except when she fell asleep! Look in the mirror.

Anne: Do you mean 10 Roads? When I hauled mail they were around a lot. Problem with mail is that the schedules are normally all over the place.

Sorry Anne, my 27 year old daughter is coming down from BG, Ohio to meet me at the camp site, along with her 13 lb Pomeranian that she says is going riding with us. Rally is based in Nelsonville, Ohio.

I tried to think of some options for you guys when I first saw the posts. I was thinking maybe some of the paper companies like Ohio Packaging and Greif but I didn't see any postings. I think most of them are based in Massillon with maybe some in Mansfield.

I'm now with a small (30+ trucks) company here in Cincinnati. My old boss sold off his trucks and me and the other driver were part of the deal. We pretty much operate under the 150 mile rule so no logging. I really like it but I doubt they would want to base a truck up your way.

Lowering landing gear at stops

I pickup at a paper roll place that makes you lower landing gear but not slide tandems. Currently at an Anchor Hocking facility that makes you slide tandems, drop trailer in door, attach a air line lock and then bobtail to a lot by the guard shack.

Morbid Curiosity

Does anyone else kill time by looking up the FMCSA safer info of sketchy looking trucks and drivers?

Here is today’s research item.
