New driver: advice regarding mentorship

Still out with my mentor and my positive attitude has diminished.πŸ˜₯ I'm frustrated with myself, keep making same mistakes especially with down shifting and missed two exits today.

Keep your goals in mind and remember that he was once a newbie too. Try and relax and learn from your mistakes. Maybe talk through them with him. I would definitely bring up the bathroom issue. Hopefully it just has not occurred to him. A little thing but a part of life and he needs to be aware. I would not even be able to dress and make it into a truck stop in the morning but then again, I am old! 😜 Hang in there and thank you for sharing. Every day you are gaining experience and skills and getting a little bit better.❀

The Life, Death, and Resurrection Of My Truck Driving Career

Persian Conversion-as someone just starting to look at schools and embark on a career in trucking, I read every word of your post. First, I am glad that you are ok. What a terrifying experience! Second, thank you for sharing this. It very well may save someone's life in the future. I have been extremely humbled by the willingness of the members of TT to share their experiences-both the good and the bad. I am reading everything I can knowing that a lot of it will lodge in my brain and come in handy one day. Stay safe❀

What do companies mean by 'Home time'?

But.. it is a completely different way of life. Don't expect to be home for at least six weeks from the time to first get there. After that, your home time is dictated by your trainer until you get your own truck. after that, it is four weeks driving, then four days home.

I am thinking down the road (after I have been driving for a bit) that I might put my things in storage and terminate the lease on my farm to save money. How would "home time" work then? Could you tell your dispatcher where you would like to park for 4 days, lol? That is actually the perfect amount of time for me then I will be itching to get back to work!

Newbie Just Applied To Prime

Hi!!! Welcome to TT and Prime ;)

You won't be forced into a lightweight..prime does get a discount at an online college whose name I can find for you or you can ask your recruiter. And honestly I think its an awesome company for women. We get bonus points we can use in the store, spa/salon and 24 hour cafe. They add up quickly and I've gotten quite a few facials, massages and hair colorings for free! We have more women than any other company.

I am thinking about Prime also. Do you load/unload or just drop and hook? Do they go cross country?

Trucker Facebook Group

I have been reading A LOT on this site everyday, and sometimes late at night so this may all be in my headπŸ˜‚, but did read some where that there was a Facebook Group for truckers? Trucker Tracker or something?

The Adventures of Daniel B.

Yeah man my technique really simplifies it. Just remember PMS for everything, ABC for hoses and air lines, and ICD for tires. Good luck on your test man! I think you got this. You never looked at an engine compartment before and you were already naming parts without me telling you what they were so you're definitely a cut above the rest.

Hey Daniel- what are PMS, ABC, IDC please?

Hey guys! I am a farmer in the "changing careers" phase of trucking. Looking at schools and companies, going over the CDL manual and reading everything that I can about the trucking industry. This site is FANTASTIC by the way! Anyway, I am interested in OTR. As a farmer, I never get a day off and I never travel. I am ready to load up and drive! I used to haul show horses. Drove a 5+ton Chevy and pulled a 33' trailer. I loved it. We had a Freightliner and a 50' foot stainless trailer too but I never learned to drive it. I am interested in life on the road for weeks at a time. Do you find time to see any sites while you are out or are you mainly eating/sleeping when you have a break? With the horses, we had very little down time but sometimes got a few hours here and there to take in some sites nearby or a good restaurant. 🐎🐎🐎
