I failed a U.A. :(

I failed a ua and went to the assessment and was recommended SOP. I wasn't reliant on my cdl so I haven't attended the class. Is there a time limit in which that has to be done? And is there an amount of time that can pass where its possible after complete loss of cdl to get it back by re-testing without the recommended classes?

Maybe I am reading it wrong, but you don't seem to be taking the CDL seriously, the Las portion of your thread is going to make a lot of people think your lazy and not truly committed. I think before anything else you need to do so some serious soul searching about if this trucking thing is something you truly want to do

Carriers, drivers look at ways to deal with California's AB-5

Okay I am no legal expert, but this AB-5 law in my book has little to do with protecting employees and insuring their rights and more about the $8 billion California is losing in taxes. I am still reading up on AB-5 , but considering we are talking about a state with serious financial issues, they are looking for a way to collect every penny they can.

Living in your rig?

Debating whether I want to have a sandwich, cereal or walk into the terminal and microwave something? Cereal and sandwich I can prepare and eat on the truck, I can also warm up something but that means dragging stuff out to get to the hot lunch box appliance. I have been deciding what I want to do for the last several hours???

Crosswinds!!!

Holly cow! Sitting in the truck just now at the terminal, gust of wind hit the truck and rocked it hard, worst yet I felt the wind inside the truck, thinking I need to invest in some throw pillows for insolation.

How can a stop light also function while "running"?

Okay I am confused, are all the lights working properly? If you're electrical connector is plugged in and working properly, when you press on the break peddle your tail break lights should light up. If they don't , the problem could be a break light is out or there is some other malfunction. Hopefully Kearsey whom seems to be one of the most knowledgeable people here and no doubt has PhD in electrical engineering will be able to to answer your question better than me

Putting it all out there..

John B. I don't want to rain on your parade but have you gotten tested for Parkinson's? My mom recently passed from complications related to the disease. She went in for a D.O.T physical many years ago and the doctor (whom they had gone to years) noticed her hand shaking and while speaking with her it was like the left side of her face lost all muscle control. She spent the next several weeks under going MRI'S, CAT Scan, seeing various neurologist. In the end she was medically disqualified from driving a truck. Towards the end she couldn't drive a car. In your case it could be you tweak a nerve or muscle

What's the most exciting thing you've ever seen or done as a driver on the road?

The Majestic beauty of this country. I have seen some incredible and breath taking scenes, the snow covered plains of Wyoming, a red painted sunset in New Mexico, Los Angeles and New York City lit up at night, hands down the most incredible second thing I have seen on the road is the scenery, first and foremost is my wife and daughter. The most exciting part of my job is coming home and having my six year old jump in my arms, I want to freeze time in that moment.

Rare or hard to find restaurants near truck stops.

I grew up on God Father's pizza , then at some point, they all but disappear. Then in the late 1990's several pop up in Las Vegas. By the early 2000's they were gone. I think it was around 2010-2011 I discovered one last one at the loves Travel Center on I-15/us 93. Perkins okay I grew up with the notion Perkins only existed to serve the blue bird special to our senior citizens. Discovered they had one in bullhead City. In recent years we have had both white Castle and Chick Fil A come to Las Vegas. I think it was early this year Chick Fil A open it's 5th location and white castles it's second. When Chick Fil A open it's first door everyone thought the local L.G.B.T.Q community would run them out of town. a local news group interview people about the issue and people did complain Chick Fil A was homophobic evil world empire awhile chowing down on some Chick filet I guess even heathens need their Chicken and a pickle

Trapped in California

Okay so around 4am the road side mechanic shows up. First thing I told him about was the coolant leak, after about ten minutes of looking over stuff, he tells me, your water pump needs to be replaced. So we move on to the 5th wheel. I explained that I can't get the locking jaw to open , I gave a brief run down about my recent problems with it, hoping maybe he has a trick or something he can teach me. He gets down and makes several attempts to pull it, nothing happened. So he spent a few minutes inspecting it, and then has me pull on it, he gets down on the ground and looks at from underneath. For several minutes he has me pull and release, the release arm. He finally stood up and goes you said you had already been two maintenance shops to have it looked at? I said yes the last time was Thursday. And they let you take it? Yep. What did they tell you was wrong? Debris. It's not , you have a bad release arm. It's loose, it's catching on stuff. Guess what? That is exactly the same thing I told the second shop. The road side mechanic goes on to tell me that my whole 5th wheel needs to be power wash, and then rebuilt, he said it was in bad shape. So he gets an idea about getting it uncouple he has me pull on it while he did something with the release arm, he comes over and pulls on the release arm and we hear the locking jaw open.. So he tells me he is going to call to have the truck towed. So he leaves and I wait for a tow truck. Around 7:30 am my phone rings, it's some guy from the 24 hour maintenance hot line. He asked if I made it to the terminal? I said no, he asks me why not, feeling lazy (lol) I said I was told to it was going to be to be towed.. I hear him mutter something and he goes hold before I go and waste $200 or $300 on towing you let's see if we can figure something else out. He tells me add water to the coolant tank that should get me back to the terminal, Then he goes I see that the mechanic who came out made a note of a faulty release arm and said the ,5th wheel needs to be rebuilt. We need our people to look at it and actually decide what needs to be done, We really can't go by the opinion of some road side mechanic. Then in a very patronizing voice he goes on to tell me something about the locking jaw and how they are designed so in case of a malfunction the locking jaw won't open releasing the trailer It's probably debris which is causing the problem I go did you just say it's probably just debris? He goes yes, minor issue While he is going on I am thinking honey and vinegar, honey and vinegar Finally I had enough, after all the maintenance issues, being down and I think I must have been running a fever or something, because I was freezing had my jacket on, while other people I could see wearing just t shirt, any how I was thinking that whole honey and vinegar thing and Then hot sauce It's not bleeping debris, the mother bleeping release arm is bleeping loose as for the company mechanics you seem to hold in such high regard, two different bleeping crews couldn't figure out the release arm is bad Oh by the way locking jaws are a mechanical object which have been known to malfunction and drop the trailer, I had it happen to me at a shippers I could hear him stuttering and I went sir I am extremely sorry I know you are not responsible, I have been dealing with various issues with the truck for several weeks. I know you are busy and doing the best you can. I really felt bad He assured me that this time the mechanics would take care of it.

Now as far as as who I drive for I am going to give you a riddle "the color red and king Arthur and blank of the round table Until next time
