Kim,

I'm happy for you that you're going out in your own truck, I'm sure you deserve every bit of it. Enjoy your home time and make sure you hug your kids before you leave. Once again, congratulations.

Pre-paid legal services---yes or no?

First off make sure you know what you're getting. Many prepaid legal plans are just some sort of discount, kind of like dental insurance. As for the second part, I'm pretty sure you're right. If you don't speed why would you worry about speeding tickets. If you're not overweight why would you worry about a weight ticket. Even then, if you don't get a lot of tickets it won't put your license in jeopardy so why worry about it. Like you said, if you stay out of trouble you won't need a lawyer. I'd save my money and put it in a savings account. If you need a lawyer you'll have the money for one, it you don't need one you'll have a little nest egg for that new bass boat or whatever. This kind of gets to something my dad told me a long time ago, insure for the things you can't afford to pay for, out of pocket. That's things like your house, car etc., not the little annoyances in life.

I think I've found the perfect company.

Well if your perfect company is indeed perfect I don't see where it would hurt as you will probably be employed there for life. Now, having said that, how confident are you that your perfect company is in fact perfect. Personally I don't think there is such a thing. I've had very good jobs and one's that I really liked, but frankly none of them came close to perfect, even the ones I owned. Have you talked to other folks that work there? Have you read Internet reviews of the company. Now I will be the first to tell you that Internet reviews of anything should be taken with heaping portions of salt. However, if you read 10 reviews and they're all talking about some specific issue then there is probably something to them. If they just say something like "ABC company sucks" then I pretty much ignore them. If the only information you have is something you got from a recruiter I would also take that with a heaping portion of salt. I guess what I'm trying to say is I have real doubts that such a perfect company exists because if it did every driver in the world would work for them. Just be very sure before you burn any bridges. Also, if you owe your current company any money make sure you can pay them the day you walk out the door, because if your perfect job doesn't work out you'll have a debt to pay and no income from which to pay it. As always your mileage may vary.

Incidents keeping me from working

Pssst Jamie. I think he is a she - Beth B.

Beth B. I agree with everyone else here that we need the details. If we don't know what you're up against how can we possibly help. Everyone here has probably made some kind of mistake in their life, some worse than others, but at the time it probably felt like the sky was falling. As for me, I'll try very hard not to judge.

Nope Old School sure don't. I remember seeing something about it. I'll have to check it out. I just saw 635 and KS 32 and 42nd street and it sounded like Kansas City. I was born there but my parents brought me to Michigan as a young child and abandoned me 32 years later. My mom moved to Kansas City after my dad died so I got to be a little familiar with it.

Welp, headed to Springfield on Sunday

What Cwc said. If you've done the High Road course you should be fine. Don't second guess yourself, if you flat out don't know, skip it if you can and come back to it. If you can't skip it the best answers are the longest one or "b". Watch out for "always", "never", and "except for". Most importantly for me is to slow down and read the questions and answers twice. Get a good night's sleep the night before and you'll pass it the first time. I have faith!

Turning radius for truck with 53' trailer (U-Turn)

Grumpy, Before you buy that piece of property you might want to check with the county or state, depending upon what kind or road you are on, about if you can put in 2 driveways. I know where I am you need permission and a permit to connect to the roadway and if it's a state highway your driveway that is in the right-of-way needs to conform to state road specs. There is also likely some sort of minimum frontage for 2 driveways. I know that I have 485 feet of frontage on a county road and my friend that works for the county said that I couldn't get the three driveways I have if they weren't grandfathered in. It's probably worth a phone call or two to find out. Just my dos centavos.

Windshield washer fluid additives?

I've lived in Michigan my entire life and I've never had any issues with the blue stuff, just make sure it's good to at least -20. If you go to temps lower than that get something that's rated to the lowest temps you will encounter and then 5 to 10 deg. lower. Don't worry about wind chill as that only applies to people not inanimate objects. The comments about the winter/new wiper blades were right on, it makes a big difference.
